Dwight Shumaker

Kenneth Dwight Shumaker passed away peacefully in his sleep of natural causes on December 21, 2016, at his home in the Burnside Community of Philadelphia, MS.  Dwight was born in the Hinze Community of Winston County, MS, on August 1, 1946, to parents, Grover Houston and Addie Inez Shumaker.  He was the youngest of six children and was duly spoiled, as is common for most children born into such circumstances.  He loved his brothers and sisters, and is certainly celebrating with those who are already there to welcome him home.

Dwight is survived by his wife, the former Frankie Ann McKay of Winston County, MS; his son, Reggie (Tammy) Shumaker of Philadelphia, MS; and daughter, Allison Cook of Philadelphia, MS. He had six grandchildren that he loved dearly:  Mallory Eubanks, Adam Shumaker, Chase Eubanks, Asher Eubanks, Faith Shumaker and Rafe Eubanks; brother Donald (Dale) Shumaker of Louisville, MS.

Dwight was a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church in Neshoba County, MS.  He enjoyed a long career in the poultry industry and was always willing to share stories about his days running chicken plants.  He kept a good place and prided himself in growing tons of tomatoes corn, and peas.  He also loved pampering the family pets:  Heidi, Coco, Cricket, and Riggs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Juanice Watson and Juanita Jennings; and brothers, Prentiss Shumaker and Doug Shumaker.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 5 PM to 8 PM at McClain Hays Funeral Home in Philadelphia. The funeral service will be Friday, December 23, 2016 at 11 AM at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mack Alford and Rev. Duane Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery in the Burnside Community.

Pallbearers will be Chase Eubanks, Mike Eubanks, Rodney Goines, Joey Lowrey, Adam Shumaker and Tim Shumaker.
