Charlie Lee "C. L." Black Sr.

Mr. Charlie Lee Black, Sr., known by many as “C. L.”, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 18, 2016. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 20, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Stokes officiating. Interment will follow in Whitehall United Methodist Cemetery.

C. L. was born August 17, 1939, to John Winston and Lula Bell Horton Black. He was a member of Whitehall United Methodist Church and he was retired from Georgia Pacific where he worked as a Milling and Drying Operator. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed various activities such as hunting, fishing, farming, and beekeeping. He enjoyed playing checkers and other games with his grandchildren. After retiring from GP and being a “work-a-holic”, he operated a pea shelling business for many years.

Mr. Black is survived by his wife of 53 years, Retha Spears Black; and five children: Lula Ann Fendley and husband, George, of Durham, North Carolina; Mary Easley and husband, Chris, of DeKalb, Mississippi; Janet Fulcher and husband, Chad; Peggy Humphries and husband, Terry; and Charlie Lee Black, Jr.; and his sister, Faye Tollison and husband, Alton, all of Louisville. One of the greatest joys was being “Paw Paw” to his 11 grandchildren: Case Fulcher, Ryan Humphries, Kegan Humphries, Holland Humphries, George Fendley II, Parker Easley, Cole Easley, Hailee Black, Lee Black, Bryce Black, and Marissa Black; and to his great-grandson, Peyton Greer. C. L. was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and six brothers.

Serving as pallbearers will be Case Fulcher, Ryan Humphries, Kegan Humphries, Holland Humphries, George Fendley, II, Parker Easley, Cole Easley, Lee Black, and Bryce Black.

 Memorial contributions in honor of Mr. Black may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P. O. Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
