Faye Hartness Powell, 56, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Liberty Baptist Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, with Rev. Joseph Ingram officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at Liberty Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery on Hartness Cemetery Road.
Faye was born August 29, 1960, to Leroy and Earline Malone Hartness in Louisville, Mississippi. She was a 1978 graduate of Noxapater High School, Meridian Community College and the State Police Academy in Jackson, Mississippi. Her passion in life was “To Serve and To Protect” as a police officer. She served as the Chief of Police in Scooba, Mississippi, and she assisted the campus security at East Mississippi Community College. During her tenure as a police officer, Faye received many commendations for the numerous drunk drivers she was able to get off the streets; she diligently followed the laws of the land and it is widely known that she would give her own sister a ticket, if warranted!
Ms. Powell is survived by two sisters, Kay Emmons and husband, Larry, of Winona, Mississippi; and Mae Horne of Noxapater; and her brother, Ronnie Hartness and wife, Virginia, of Starkville, Mississippi; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Estelle McLaurin.
Serving as pallbearers will be Phil Hartness, Colton Horne, Brody Horne, Billy McLaurin, Bobby McLaurin, and Bobby Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Ted Hartness, Danny McLaurin, Terry McLaurin, and Chad Smith. Memorial contributions in honor of Ms. Powell may be given to Police Benevolent Foundation, 2155 Highway 42 South, McDonough, Georgia 30252.
