Lyda Myatt

Lyda Myatt, 98, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016, at Noxapater United Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Fancher and Hugh Whiteside officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at the church from 1:30 until service time. Interment will follow in Noxapater Methodist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Myatt was born on September 16, 1917, to Bruce and Mittie Blakeley Leonard in Selmer, Tennessee. She was a member of Noxapater United Methodist Church, and she worked in Retail.

Ms. Myatt is survived by her daughter, Gwen Rakestraw and husband, Bill, of Madison, Mississippi; her son-in-law, Charles Donald of Louisville; and her sister, Patie McCallister, formerly of Noxapater. She is also survived by five half-sisters: Liz King; Shirley Mullins; Brenda Horton; Betty Ward; and Debbie Stanfill all of Tennessee; and a half-brother, R. B. Leonard also of Tennessee.

One of her greatest joys was being “Momma Lyda” to five grandchildren: Chuck Donald (Brenda); Alan Donald (Kathy); Bryan Young (Amy); Alisha Pace (Shayne); and Gwen Chandler (Michael). Also left to mourn her passing is 11 great-grandchildren: Wesley Donald (Sarah); Mallory Fleming (Taylor); Lindsey Donald; Macey Donald; Sara Kate Cummings; Hallie Young; Blake Young; Caitlyn Cummings; Camden Chandler; Garret Chandler; and Grayson Chandler; and one great-great-grandson, Cason Donald; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest B. Myatt; her daughter, Mittie Ann Donald; her parents; one sister, Artie Leonard; and by one brother, J. R. Leonard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Chandler, Alan Donald, Chuck Donald, Wesley Donald, Shayne Pace, and Bryan Young. Memorials may be given to the Noxapater Methodist Cemetery Fund, c/o Helen Webb, P. O. Box 552, Noxapater, MS 39346 or to the charity of your choice.
