Marion Herring, 81, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Graveside services and interment will be at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Whitehead Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Lundy officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at Nowell Massey Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
Marion was born October 10, 1934, and is formerly from Greenville, Mississippi. She had been a co-director of Green Valley Boys Ranch, a school teacher and counselor, and a greatly loved “Granny” to countless troubled boys for over 30 years.
Mrs. Herring is survived by her husband of 64 years, Rev. Doug Herring of the Nanih Waiya community; two daughters, Diana Vance and husband, Danny of Grenada, Mississippi; and Marion Stoute of Jacksonville, Florida; her son, Christopher Herring and wife, Marta, also of the Nanih Waiya community; and by her brother, Timothy Philhower and wife, Linda, of Vernon, Texas. One of her greatest joys was being “Granny” to her five grandchildren: Christopher Stoute, Sara Jackson, Katherine Hughes (Steve), Hayden Herring, and Micah Herring; and her great-grandson, Gerald Jackson. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marion Williams Philhower; her brother, David Philhower; and her granddaughter, Mary Ruth Vance.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Boggan, Mike Fuller, Bruce Hosket, Don Hubbard, Dan Mittan, Rusty McKnight, Fred Nabors, Dr. Jimmy Parkerson, and Clay Phillips. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to French Camp Academy, One Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745.
