Joe Vowell

Early Joe Vowell, 87, passed away at Anderson Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi, on Friday, November 4, 2022, with his loving family by his side. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 6 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brian Thrasher and Bro. Mike Dowd officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 1 p.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Interment will immediately follow the service in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Mississippi.

Joe was born April 2, 1935, to Earl and Maude Saxon Vowell. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church. He loved Rabbit hunting and watching westerns on television. Joe loved watching Weir High School football. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Joe is survived by his three children, Beverly Vowell (Jerry) Sisson and Tim Vowell of the Panhandle Community and Amanda Vowell (Ricky) Brock of Ackerman, Mississippi. He also leaves behind a sister, Ruth Reed of Panama City, Florida. One of his greatest joys was being “Paw Paw” to his seven grandchildren: Kevin Sisson, Kristy (Brian) Thrasher, Pam (Wayne) Hobson, Clay (Sharon) Vowell, Joey Vowell (Lauren Jackson), Jean Ann Brock, and Giffin Brock and seven great grandchildren Hanna Sisson, Madison Sisson, Brody Sisson, Conner Thrasher, Reagan Thrasher, Henry Hobson, and Jaclyn Hobson as well as host of nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Romedy Vowell; his son, Randall Vowell, his parents, Earl and Maude Saxon Vowell, six brothers, Woodrow Vowell, Hubard Vowell, Aaron Vowell, Mike Vowell, T.J. Vowell, and Fredrick “Buddy” Vowell; and six sisters, Mary Pearl Walters, Sara Romedy, Sue Oliver, Marguerite Sisson and two infants.

Serving as pallbearers are William Thomas Vowell (son), Victor Romedy, David McCulloch, Pete Vowell, Daniel Vowell, and Dewitt Vowell. Forrest Romedy will be serving as an Honorary Pallbearer. Memorials in honor of Joe may be given to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Fund.
