Robert Lee (Bob) Sloan

Mr. Robert Lee (Bob) Sloan, 91, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Saturday, June 9, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will also be from 2 p.m.until service time on Sunday at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Clark officiating. Interment will be in the Beth-Eden Church Cemetery in Winston County. Nowell-Massey Funeral Home of Louisville is in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Sloan was born on June 10, 1920, in Noxubee County, Mississippi. He was retired with over forty years of service with BellSouth Telephone Company. He served in the Naval 24th Construction Battalion in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a 32nd degree, Scottish Rites Mason, Past Master of Beth-Eden Masonic Lodge #205, Shriner, Past Patron of Louisville Chapter #60 O.E.S., VFW, and Telephone Pioneers. He was a member of Beth-Eden Lutheran Church, a wonderful neighbour and friend of the community. He was an active member of Island X-24 Sea Bee Veterans of America, having just returned from their annual gathering in April. He was a graduate of Louisville High School.
Mr. Sloan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Edwards Sloan; his daughter, Helen Kaye Gilmore, and three sons, Robert "Bob" Sloan and wife, Sandra; Ricky B. (Bray) Sloan; and Jimmy Ray Sloan and wife, Denise. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Stephanie Laura, Chris, Glenn, Anne, James, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Katherine; and four great-grandchildren: James, Jacob, Erin, Robyn. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Myra Edwards and Eloise Sloan and by a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Sloan was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. "Buddy" and Georgia Beatrice Prisock Sloan; five brothers: Marcus, M. K. (Jack), Sam, Charles, and Herman Sloan; also one sister, Burnice Sloan Whatley and one sister-in-law, Rachel Sloan and two brothers-in-law: W.T. Whatley and Charles Edwards.
Pallbearers will be Chris Gilmore, Blake Edwards, Daniel Edwards, Steve Wright, Brett Ziegler, and Sam Presley. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of Beth-Eden Church and the Masons of Beth-Eden Lodge #205.
