Maxine Jeffries Oglesby

Maxine Jeffries Oglesby, 85, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 29, 2019, at her residence on Craig Springs Road in Sturgis, Mississippi. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 2, from 9 a.m. until service time at Friendship Baptist Church on Craig Springs Road in Oktibbeha County. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 2 at Friendship Baptist Church with Charles Smith and Hermon Trulove officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in McClellan Cemetery.

Maxine was born July 17, 1934, to Dan and Polly Prisock Jeffries in Winston County. She was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church of Sturgis actively involved in all church activities. She especially enjoyed her Bible study and always helped with Vacation Bible School where she was known as one of the “Kool-Aid Ladies.” Maxine was ready at all times to prepare food or help in any way when a neighbor or church family needed assistance. She was a graduate of Sturgis High School; and after raising her family, she ended her career by retiring from Mississippi State University. Maxine enjoyed reading and her flowers, but by far, her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and attending activities in which her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were participating. She liked to travel and was always ready for a trip to the mountains especially in the fall of the year, which was her favorite season.

Maxine is survived by her husband of 66 years Eddie B. Oglesby; and two daughters Audrey Trulove and husband Hermon; and Tammy Smith and husband Charles all of Sturgis. One of her greatest joys was being “MawMaw” to her six grandchildren: Wayne (Jessi) Scarbrough, Brad (Katie) Scarbrough, Jan (Michael) Johnson, Kerry (Mike) Phillips, Apryl Smith, Laurie (Steven) Eklund, Stefanie Trulove (James) Belcher, and Todd (Bronwyn). She also leaves behind her 19 great-grandchildren: MaKenzie, Presley, Avery, and Addy Scarbrough; Dean and Dawson Scarbrough; Emma Grace, Ellie Kate, Emerson, Max and Jack Johnson; Colin and Ashlynn Phillips; Micah and Eli Smith; Jabin, Journey, Joah Belcher; and Brittany and Andrew. She was preceded in death by her children Jeanne Ellington and Danny Oglesby; her parents; and eight siblings.

Serving as pallbearers are Wayne Scarbrough, Brad Scarbrough, Mike Phillips, Benny Oglesby, Gary Ellington, and Ricky Scarbrough. Honorary pallbearers will be Eli Smith, Micah Smith, Dean Scarbrough, Dawson Scarbrough, Jack Johnson, Max Johnson, Johnny McCool, and Donald Miller. Peggy Perry Goza

Peggy Perry Goza went to be with the Lord on Saturday night, September, 28, 2019 in her home surrounded by her loving family. 

Peggy was born on June 8, 1951 in Starkville, Mississippi to J.T. Perry and the late Imogene Perry. She is affectionately remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
Ms. Peggy Goza lived in Ackerman, Mississippi. She worked for 34 years as an Administrative Services Coordinator for the Ackerman plant of Southeastern Timber Products. She was the secretary for the Choctaw Water Association for over 20 years.

Graveside Service for Ms. Peggy Goza will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 11 AM at Salem Methodist Church Cemetery in Ackerman, MS. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 at Chester Baptist Church from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman, MS is in charge of all arrangements.

Peggy loved her family dearly. She is survived by her father, James Thomas Perry, her son, Jim Goza of Nashville, TN, her daughter, Cindy Goza of Bruce, MS, her grandchildren, Zach Goza, Ashanti Pierce, Moni Pierce, her sisters Kay Perry Smith of Ackerman, MS, Theresa Skinner (Ralph) of Ackerman, and Debbie Upchurch (Butch) of Madison, MS, and a host of nieces and two great nieces whom she loved.

Peggy was preceded in death by her mother, Imogene Perry.
Peggy was a member at Chester Baptist Church, playing the organ, leading Bible drills, involved in the WMU, and a member of D Bright Ladies' Sunday School class. She loved her Lord and served him faithfully. She was selfless, always thinking of others, and gifted in hospitality. She was always baking and cooking for family and friends throughout her lifetime. She loved traveling and was an avid Elvis fan. She loved the Ole Miss Rebels.

We celebrate her reunion with her Savior and her mother.

Mavis Helen Jennings Woods

Mavis Helen Jennings Woods, 89, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be Sunday, September 29, from 12 p.m. until service time at South Louisville Baptist Church in Louisville. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 29, at South Louisville Baptist Church with Rev. Trent Jaudon officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mavis, affectionately known by her family as “Tootsie,” was born in “Happy Hollow” in the Lobutcha Community on February 24, 1930, to Audley Andrew and LuVeda McDaniel Jennings. She married Willis “Clarence” Woods in 1948 and they joined South Louisville Baptist Church in 1955 where she has been an active member in everything from Sunday school to evening service. She was actively involved in the VIP Group activities at church such as Bible study, traveling, lunches, and speakers. Mavis would sometimes comment that someone attended who was “too young for the VIP group” or someone did not attend even though they were old enough to attend! After his return from World War II, she and Clarence purchased Woods Grocery where, for many years, they served their community. After working long hours at the store each day, she enjoyed her “therapy” of planting flowers,working in her yard and her needlework.

Mavis is survived by her daughter Cathy Woods Kiningham and husband Tom of Sewanee, Tennessee; and her daughter-in-law Beverly Woods of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Grandmother” to her grandchildren: Stephanie Townsend, Jason (Misty) Townsend, Amber (Travis) Naccarato, Spring (Chris) Moody, and Andrew Woods; and her 11 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind three sisters: Mamie Sue (Guy) Woods, Margie Fay (Thomas) Scott, and Betty Jo (John) Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Willis “Clarence” Woods; her beloved son Andy Woods; and her parents.

Serving as pallbearers are Chris Moody, Travis Naccarato, Michael Patsolic, Ethan Townsend, Jason Townsend, Landon Townsend, and Andrew Woods. Sarah Myatt

Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Myatt, 91, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at Neshoba General Hospital in Philadelphia, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 27th, at Noxapater Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Fondren officiating. Mrs. Myatt was born December 11, 1927, in Winston County, MS, to Sarah Moore and James Edward Martin Sr. She was a graduate of Noxapater High School, and was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was a member of Noxapater Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clark Myatt; a daughter, Marcia Myatt; a brother, James E. Martin Jr., and a great grandson, Joseph Clark Myatt.

She is survived by a daughter, Renee Myatt (Joe W.) Wood of Philadelphia, MS, a son, Gene (Mickey) Myatt of Pensacola, FL; two sisters, Mary Breazeale of Brandon, MS, and Martha McBrayer of Charleston, MS; two brothers, Bill Martin of Noxapater, MS, and Wayne Martin of Gloster, LA; four grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Myatt, Todd Resavage, Dustin Cheatham, Kevin Kellum, Peter Hudson, Martin Breazeale, and Jimmy Martin.

Monika Dunlap

Monika Elisabeth Dunlap passed away at Vanderbilt University Hospital, in Nashville on September 24, following emergency pulmonary surgery.

Mrs. Dunlap was a resident of Louisville, Old Webster, Mississippi. She was Professor Emeritus of Foreign Languages at Mississippi State University, having taught French for the past twenty five years until her retirement in 2018.

James Ben Robbins

James Ben Robbins, 74, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019, at Moody Farms in

Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 25 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Gross and Rev. Mike Ingram officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 25, from 12 noon until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Rev. Willie B. Moore and Rev. David Keen will preside over the graveside services with interment immediately following in Good Hope Cemetery.

James was born in Winston County, Mississippi on January 16, 1945 to Ben and Needham Moore Robbins. He was a faithful member of Good Hope Baptist Church and was so good to visit those in need whether taking food or performing tasks they were unable to do. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed various activities such as fishing, rabbit hunting, and gardening—especially growing peanuts and tomatoes. James adapted well to change…he could skillfully use his cellphone and was learning to text! He loved his family dearly particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and tried to never miss any activities in which they were involved. For about 15 years, he worked for H. C. Price in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Galveston, Texas, in pipe construction. He began his Big Red career in 1979 and retired from Taylor Machine Works after 36 years in 2015. James loved to work and he loved to help others.

James is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Marie Pickett Robbins; and his children Stephanie Hatcher and husband Johnny and Pat Robbins and wife Susan all of Louisivlle. One of his greatest joys was being “Papaw” to his grandchildren Daphanie (Jason) Pippin and T. J. (Mary Margaret) Robbins as well as his seven great-grandchildren: Brayden and Kiptyn Massey; Hayden, Hatcher, and Anna Marie Pippin; Jace Douglas and Luke Bejamin Robbins. He is also survived by three sisters: Barbara Fulcher, Rebecca (Aron) Williamson, and Geneive Walker. Also left to mourn his passing is a host of extended family including nieces, nephews, and friends in addition to his beloved beagles. He was preceded in death by his daughter Daphanie Marie Robbins; his parents; three brothers: G. P., J. L. and Thomas Carter “Sonny Boy” Robbins; and three sisters: Myrtis Bates, Joy Gressinger, and Bonnie Walker.

Serving as pallbearers are Johnny Robbins, Tommy Earl Robbins, Larry Robbins, Bobby Robbins, Chris Moody, and Dennis Hoskins. Teresa Teters Eaton

Teresa (Tere’) Annette Teters Eaton, 53, of Rosharon Texas, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019.


Graveside service will be held Friday, September 27, 2019 at 11:00 AM in Doty Springs Cemetery, 2491 Attala Road 5205, Ethel, MS, 39067.

She was born February 11, 1966, to Max & Faye Teters in Roswell, New Mexico. She earned several degrees in her life including Business Administration at Tyler Junior College, Marketing at Texas A & M University, and her Secondary Education degree at Sam Houston State University. She became a teacher and taught at different school districts in the area, Stafford MSD, Columbia-Brazoria ISD, Angleton ISD, and Brazosport ISD. She was currently teaching science at Freeport Intermediate school.

Left to cherish her memory is her father, Max Teters, her husband, Danny Eaton, her daughters, Sarah, Patricia, and Gina Eaton as well as her brother Darren Teters & wife Robbie, with their children Darrien and Preston.

Mary Reed Williamson

Mary Reed Williamson, age 82, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at NHC Scott in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Funeral services will be 12 noon Thursday, September 26 at Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Gordy and Rev. Jerry Lundy officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10 a.m. until service time at Harmony Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mary was born October 13, 1936, to W. T. and Annie Maye White Reed in Winston County. She was a faithful member of Harmony Baptist Church where she served as church librarian and taught Sunday School for many years. She and her late husband, Marvle, enjoyed serving as the Senior Adult leaders planning Christmas banquets, trips, and activities to keep everyone busy. Mary enjoyed any outdoor activities especially gardening, working in her flowers, putting up vegetables from the garden, and picking her fruit bushes. She served as the church librarian for many years and her grandchildren enjoyed choosing books for her to read to them. After retiring from her job at Angelica Pants Factory, she decided to apply for a job as a “flagger” with a road crew as they built the bridge over Nanih Creek on Highway 397. She was hired, and after completion, anytime this bridge was crossed it was always referred to as “Momma Mary’s” bridge. When her grandchildren were visiting or kids she occasionally kept in her home, they always enjoyed the waffles she made for them. It wasn’t necessarily the waffles themselves but eating them in her house at her bar created a fond memory for them.

Mary is survived by her daughter Melissa Gordy and husband Rev. Tony Gordy of Lawrenceburg. One of her greatest joys was being “Momma Mary” to her grandchildren: Melodie and Brett Ellis; Joshua “Buck” and Kayla Gordy; and Michelle and Zach Davis. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing three great-grandchildren: Emma Gordy, Trenton Brown, and Alayla Baxter. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years George Marvle Williamson; her parents; and her brother James Thaddaeus Reed.

Cliff Sanders

Cliff Sanders, 39, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 20, 2019, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Cliff was born in Winston County on December 11, 1979. He was a graduate of Nanih Waiya Attendance Center Class of 1998 and he attended East Mississippi Community College at Mayhew. Anyone who met Cliff quickly realized that he was an avid Ole Miss fan! Cliff was a man of strong faith and an unending love for his family. He had a unique ability to “spin a yarn about the good ole days” and you knew you were special to him when he wrote you a birthday tribute on Facebook. Cliff, a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church, had recently transitioned his membership to The Way Community Church. He was employed by Kloeckner Metals as a fabricator.

Cliff is survived by his loving wife of 16 years Lindsey Keen Sanders; and his children: Cooper Sanders, Hunter Cole Sanders, and his Little Princess. He is also survived by his parents Mitch and Shirley Sanders; his brother Brian Sanders and wife Laura; and his grandfather Bill Robinson. He also leaves behind his in-laws Bro. David and Kim Keen and his sister-in-law Laney Keen Barrett and husband Justin. Also left to mourn his passing is a host of extended family including nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Minnie Robinson; and his paternal grandparents Ivan Sanders and Louise Sanders Mitchell.

Ms. Price, 89, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. She lived in Stallo Community most of her life. She was a certified nursing assistant. Her hobbies include cooking, and taking care of others. Ms. Price was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

Preceded in death: Parents, Ernest Taylor and Ethel Moss Taylor; Husband, Johnnie Price; Sister, Margaret Taylor; Brothers, Bill Taylor and Olyn Taylor.

Survivors: Son, Kenny Price of Stallo; Sister, Carolyn Barksdale of Huntsville, AL; (3) Grandchildren; Wayne Price, Nicole Weaver and Tiffany Backinger; (1) Great-Grandchild, Hank Backinger; Numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Chad Goodin

Henry “Chad” Goodin was born in Louisville, MS, on January 28, 1968, and entered into rest on September 18, 2019, at his residence in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 21st, at Coye Assembly of God, with Rev. Lee Watson, Rev. Ryan Farmer, Rev. Achan Dufrene, and Rev. Eugene Duran officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home, and Saturday at the church one hour before service time. Interment will be in Vernon Assembly of God Cemetery.

Chad was the owner of Goodin Custom Construction and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Coye Assembly of God.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Jackie Goodin of Louisville, his mother Judy Goodin of Louisville, his children Austin, Justin, and Kalee Goodin of Ackerman, DeAnna Swearingen of Tupelo, Allyson (Sam) Mussa of Tupelo, and Caleb (Jenny) Swearingen of West, his grandmother, Ruby Rogers of Louisville, his brother Brad Goodin of Louisville, his sister Kimberly (Daniel) Robertson of Louisville his grandchildren Chandlor Swearingen, Ashton Smith, Jaclyn Presley, Kaleigh Swearingen, Amera Musa, Mia Musa, and Piper Smith and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and best friend, Bruce Goodin.
