William “Bill” Parks Smith

William “Bill” Parks Smith of Greenwood, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. 

Mr. Smith was born on February 13, 1940, in Starkville, MS, to Rev. J.B. and Bennie Wade Smith. He was a graduate of Ackerman High School and Mississippi State University.  He was a resident of Greenwood, MS, and before retirement was employed by Staplcotn and South Group Insurance throughout the years. Mr. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood, MS, and was also a member of the Greenwood Lions Club.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Jo Quinn Worrell Smith of Greenwood, MS;  1 son, Quinn Smith of Madison, MS;  1 brother, Rev. James Erle Smith of D’Lo, MS,  and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents;  1 brother, John Bryant Smith, Jr;  and 1 sister, Marjorie Wade Bishop Thornell.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, 2:00 PM, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS, with burial following in Enon Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at Coleman Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to any charity of choice.

Delisa Lynn Peavy

Delisa Lynn Peavy, 63, of Columbus, formerly of Louisville died Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at her home.

DD, as she was affectionately called by many, or as her neighbor’s knew her as Max’s mom referring to her Australian Shepherd that she so dearly loved, was never one to venture far from home unless it was a horse show with her daughter or an occasional beach trip with her sister. Delisa was happiest at home with her many animals thru the years sitting around her kitchen table in her sweatpants catching up with friends and family on the telephone. She worked for her Grandmother at Lucille’s in Louisville for more than 20 years and later worked for Jerry’s Flowers

A very talented artist, Delisa decorated many homes and venues for many events, from Vacation Bible School, to birthdays, Homecoming events to Weddings and her favorite, Christmas and for many years she was known to have the most elaborate booth at the Dixie National Horse show. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville and volunteered many hours at Winston Academy.

The daughter of the Late William Davis Metts and Shearer Baker Metts, she was born in Louisville, Ms August 26, 1959 where she lived until 2015 when she and her Husband of 43 years, Larry Peavy, moved to Columbus after their home was destroyed by the Tornado.

She was preceded in Death by her Grandparents, Garland and Florence Emma Wood Metts , Walter Fuller Baker and Lucille Gladney Baker and Great Granddaughter, Reagan Ruth Peavy. 

 Delisa is survived by her husband, Larry Peavy, Columbus, Daughter Brandy (James) Blanton, Louisville, Son Anthony (Kristy) Peavy, Hartselle, AL , Brother Derick (Pam) Metts, Starkville, and Sister LaShearer (Greg) Merchant, Columbus,

Three Grandchildren, Carleigh Blanton, Dylan(Merissa) Peavy and Chelsea (Nate) Johnson and Great Grandchildren, Willow, Grayciemae and Cheyanne and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Porter Funeral Home, Louisville, Ms from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 pm, in the Porter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Martin Lifer Officiating.

Tycorian Jaquan Estes, 18, of Noxapater, Mississippi, passed on June 1, 2023 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Elsie Nell Fondren Edwards

Elsie Nell Fondren Edwards was born December 14, 1945 to B.T. and Eva Mae Phelps Fondren and was welcomed home by her big brother, John Robert Fondren and four years later they welcomed their little brother, Jesse Harold Fondren. Elsie attended Ackerman Elementary and High School graduating in 1964. She went on to attend Wood Junior College.

She married the love of her life, Edgar Edwards, on July 5, 1968. They were later blessed with two daughters, Pam and Paula. In 2004, she patiently awaited the arrival of her only grandchild, Sara Grace, who was the joy of her life. Elsie was surrounded by her loving family as she went to meet her Savior on Sunday, June 11, exactly nine years to the day her loving husband Ed died.

Elsie was last employed by Choctaw County Schools where she faithfully served as a school bus driver for over 20 years. In her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling with her family and to her happy place was the Beach! After her cirrhosis diagnosis two years ago, she began praying daily to see Sara Grace graduate in May 2023. God granted her that desire.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Edgar, her parents, B.T. and Eva Mae Fondren, her brothers, John Robert Fondren and Jesse Harold Fondren, and her brother-in-law, Joe Edwards.

She is survived by her daughters, Pam Holdiness (Pete) of Ackerman, Paula Tribble (Dave) of Crowder, one granddaughter, Sara Grace Tribble of Crowder, two step granddaughters, Erin Breland (Matthew) of Newton and Laken Beam (Matthew) of Eupora, a special sister-in-law, Jewel Fondren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Elsie loved her special friends from Legacy Hospice, Kelsie White, Elise Hood, and Dena Kelly, who served her faithfully. Memorials can be sent to Legacy Hospice, Chester Baptist Church Cemetery or a charity of your choice.

Betty Ann Hunt

Betty Ann Hunt, age 77, passed away on June 11, 2023, at Winston Nursing Home Dogwood Cottage in Louisville, Mississippi. She was born on August 11, 1945, to Lester and Beatrice Walker Maddox. Betty was a lifetime resident of Ackerman, Mississippi. She was a very hardworking woman, working three jobs at one time in her life. She worked as a dental hygienist for 18 years and drove a school bus for 20 plus years. In her spare time, she was a home delivery driver for Meals on Wheels. When she wasn’t working, she spent a lot of time in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was most proud of the tree she replanted in her backyard that was found growing wild in her flower bed. Betty loved fishing and she went anytime she could. Her favorite place to go was to the mountains with her son, Warren. She was a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church.

Betty is survived by two sons, Warren Hunt of Ackerman, Mississippi, and George (Trish) Hunt of Meridian, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Josh Hunt and Sean Hunt; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Beatrice Walker Maddox; her husband, Alvin Dwight Hunt; one son, Wendell Hunt; and one brother, James Douglas Maddox.

Funeral services for Betty Ann Hunt will be held, Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 11 am at Concord Baptist Church in Ackerman, Mississippi. Visitation will be from 10 am until 11 am at Concord Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating the services will be Brother Roger Griffith and Brother Michael Bishop. Pallbearers are Jim Crimm, Stanley Maddox, George Earl Maddox, Davel Bray, Tony Steadman, and Billy Whittington. Nancy Lynn Carpenter Dempsey

Nancy Lynn Carpenter Dempsey, age 72, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at her home in McCool, Mississippi, surrounded by her loving family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 1 at Whitehall Methodist Church with Bro. Mike Dowd officiating.

Nancy was born July 1, 1950, in Grenada, Mississippi, to Abner Lee and Lura Emma Foster Carpenter. She worked two and three jobs all her life since she was old enough to work. She had numerous jobs over the years but she loved being a manager at Country Mart in Louisville the most because she loved talking and meeting new people. Nancy loved her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; working at her pond; and singing with her late husband, Brice; but most of all, she loved going to the casino. If you knew her, you loved her.

Nancy is survived by her daughters, Tammy Maycock and husband, David, of Louisville, and Tanya Taylor and husband, Beau, of Steens, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Mamaw” to her three grandsons: Matthew (Noell) Maycock, Russ Taylor, and Taylor Maycock; her five great-granddaughters: Ryleigh Maycock, Cali Maycock, Shane Maycock, Leighton Maycock, and Emily Pearson. She also leaves behind her brother, Jerry Carpenter; as well as her loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brice Dempsey; her parents; her sister, Sandra McSheffrey; and her brother, Bobby Carpenter.

Chris Boatner

Mr. Boatner, 56, of Philadelphia, MS, died Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Survivors include his wife, Angela Boatner of Philadelphia; daughter, Jessie Palmer (Shaun) of Louisville; son, Jake Boatner (Brianna) of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Lucy Palmer, Lucas Boatner, Colton Boatner; father, Rev. Lavon Boatner of Philadelphia; brother, Scotty Boatner (Kari) of Philadelphia; several nieces, nephews and their families. Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Boatner.

Larry Gene Rogers

Larry Gene Rogers, 78, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. n Friday, June 9, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Jones officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Good Hope Cemetery.

Gene was born October 2, 1944, to Thaddeus and Eddie Mae Ford Rogers in Winston County, Mississippi. He was a member of South Louisville Baptist Church. Gene was retired from the construction industry.

Gene is survived by his son, Todd Rogers of Pickensville, Alabama and his sister, Jane Snow of Noxapater, Mississippi. One of his greatest joys was being “Pa Paw” to his two grandsons, Will-Corbin (Alaina) Rogers and Landon (Grace) Rogers. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially with his great-granddaughter, Raylee Kate Rogers. He was preceded in death by his son Bart Rogers; his daughter, Karen Rogers; his parents; brother Jimmy Rogers; and sister, Patty Rogers Fioramonti.

Billy Sewell

Billy passed away peacefully at home after an extended illness surrounded by his wife and loved ones on June 5, 2023.

Billy Sewell was the devoted husband of 30 years to Beth Hall Sewell. He was the loving father of Shannon Sewell Smith (Charlie), Kelli Sewell Dawkins, and Sarah Beth Sewell and granddaddy to Drew (Corrine) Smith, Abbie (Trent) Dunn, Mayson Smith, Camryn Dawkins, and Riley Dawkins, and great granddaddy of Burgin, Vivian, Troy, and Leighton. He is also survived by his former son-in-law, Roben Dawkins.

Billy was born on February 6, 1941 at home in the Clarkson Community in Webster County, Mississippi and graduated from Cumberland High School. After graduating from Delta State University, he had a happy life as a teacher and coach for 38 years. He enjoyed all sports and the outdoors with basketball being his passion. Billy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Starkville, MS. He cherished his family and friends and he was exceedingly grateful and proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as his extended family. He savored life’s simple pleasures such as watching birds in his backyard, sitting on the porch with friends, going to check on his cows, gardening, riding his Goldwing motorcycle, fishing, boating on the river, MSU sporting events, staying in contact with former basketball players, and watching children and grandchildren in activities. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryant and Celeste Walker Sewell, brother, Gerald Sewell, and sister, Mary Harpole.

Charles E. Parish

Charles E. Parish of Weir, MS passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at his residence in Weir, MS. Charles was born on October 14, 1944, to Dewey and Mary Jane (Nowell) Parish. He was 78 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Bear Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am till service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Charles Hollis, Randy Rives, Jeremy Ming, Patrick Fulton, Danny Dobbs, and Chris Busby.

Charles is survived by one son, Mike (Mary) Parish of Maben, MS; two daughters, Deborah Bell of Destin, FL, and Lori Boykin of Sylacauga, AL; two brothers, Ray (Brenda) Parish of Weir, MS, and Bobby (Jo) Parish of Weir, MS; one sister, Ruth Dixie Parish of Gonzales, LA.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, Alexandria "Alex" Parish, Andrew "Drew" Parish, Codi Coleman, Ashland Hall, Bradley Boykin, and Amanda Boykin.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Marie Parish; his parents, Dewey and Mary Jane (Nowell) Parish; four sisters, and three brothers.

Truman Harvard Triplett

Truman Harvard Triplett, 76, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 12 noon. on Thursday, June 8, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wayne Hill and Bro. Mark Mayo officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Perkinsville Cemetery.

Truman was born November 15, 1946, to Harvard and Willie Eaves Triplett in Winston County, Mississippi. He was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church. Truman retired from Taylor Machine Works after more than 50 years of service as a machinist. He was an active Master Mason of Winstonville Lodge #277 and he was also a Shriner. Truman enjoyed classic cars and attending classic car shows. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He answered the call of his country by serving for more than 30 years in the National Guard.

Truman is survived by his children: Chris Triplett, and wife, Amanda; Shelia Triplett, all of Louisville; Ann Carter and husband, Mike, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and Craig Bouchillon and wife Susie of Melbourne, Florida. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Goodin, also of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “Pap Paw” to his two grandsons, Thrasher and Reed Triplett. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; an infant son, Michael Triplett; and his parents.

Serving as pallbearers are Isaac Bouchillon, James Griffith, Dustin Smith, Nick Stewart, Jacky Triplett, and John Triplett. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of Bethel Baptist Church, Thrasher and Reed Triplett, John William Smith, and Larry Goodin. Patricia Elease Wilson Webb

Mrs. Patricia Elease Wilson Webb passed away on June 3, 2023 at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, Mississippi. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, Mississippi followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be that afternoon at Memorial Park Cemetery in Louisville, Mississippi.

Pat was born in Iverness, Mississippi on July 25, 1936 to Grace and Frank Wilson. She graduated from Louisville High School and was a cheerleader at Millsaps College. She married Ted Johnson Webb of Louisville. Her life was committed to her faith, family, and friends. She taught Sunday School for forty years at First Methodist Church in Yazoo City and was an active member and past lay director of the North Mississippi Emmaus Community. Pat was a life member of Junior Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and adored cooking, always sharing her favorite books and recipes. Her years at St. Catherine’s were happy and full of friendships of residents and employees alike. She loved her volunteer work with the Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland and was a member of Highland Colony Baptist Church. One of her greatest joys was being “Poppy” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pat is survived by her loving husband of sixty-seven years, Ted, children, Ted Webb, Jr. (Sarah) of Hattiesburg, Diane Hewlett (Richard) of Starkville, and Frank Webb (Dee) of Yazoo City; grandchildren, Caroline Clark (Grant) of Nashville, TN, Julia Ballow (William) of Signal Mountain, TN, Hayes Hewlett of Starkville, John Kyle Hewlett (Heather) of Madison, MeMe Hugh (David) of Starkville, Rich Hewlett (Athena) of Starkville, Elizabeth Ford (Ben) of Madison, and Anne Rush (Logan) of Meridian. She had thirteen great grandchildren: Hardy, Libba, Annie, Kennedy, Finley, Bonner, Browning, Woods, Ann Kendal, Reed, James, Henry and Ella.

She was predeceased by her sister, Sylvia Kyle and her grandson, Webb Hewlett.

Patricia Wood Bowie

Patricia Lucille Wood Bowie, 84, passed away on June 3, 2023. She was born January 6, 1939 in Choctaw County MS to Sanford and Lucille Wood. She worked many years alongside her husband, Jack Bowie, operating TH Mug in Ackerman. Pat married Jack in 1970 and chose to help him raise his daughters Jackie and Lisa. She loved and cared for many children of family members and friends. Pat requested to be buried with her Bible which stands as a testimony to her faith.

She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. Pat is survived by her husband, Jack Bowie; stepdaughters, Jackie Bowie Wise (Doug) of Ackerman, Lisa Bowie Balderaz (Joey) of Victoria, TX; grandchildren, Jacob and Jace Balderaz of Victoria, TX; Guy Wise of Ackerman and Juliana Wise of Ocean Springs; bonus grandchild, Hannah Jones, and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Brian Blankenship, Ben Chambers, Eric Chambers, Brent Russell, Guy Wise and Taylor Wood.

Mable Joyce Burks Eaves

Mable Joyce Burks Eaves, 69, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Joyce was born December 24, 1953, to William and Christine Lang Burks in Galesburg, Michigan. She was a member of First Apostolic Church of Louisville. Joyce enjoyed working in the flowers in her yard as long as she was able to do so. She worked at TRW for many years and later, she enjoyed helping others which led to her sitting with those that needed special attention. Joyce was very family oriented; she dearly loved her family and loved to cook for them.

Joyce is survived by three sons: Jamie Eaves and wife Maegan; Michael Eaves; and Matthew Eaves all of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Granny” to her grandson, Jason Eaves. Joyce also leaves behind her sister, Linda Eaves; and her brother, Kenny Burks. She was preceded in death by her parents; and the father of her children, Paul Eaves.

Carolyn P. Palmer

Mrs. Carolyn P. Palmer, 81, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Regency Hospital of Meridian, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 3rd, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 noon until service time at the funeral home. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn was born September 24, 1941, in Seminary, MS. She was retired from Spartus Corp. after 26 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved gardening, cooking, recipes, and her beloved dog, Meme. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde V. Palmer; her parents, Dave and Lucille Presley Miller; a son, David Palmer; a sister, Sherry Hemphill; and a brother, Homer Miller.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Mike) Kemp of Louisville; a son, Clyde Palmer of Macon; a daughter-in-law, Linda Palmer of Louisville; five grandchildren, Sara Palmer, Josh Palmer, Star Pettie, Trea Gordon, and Tyler Gordon; and eight great grandchildren.
