Wynnie Inez Ferguson Blaine

Wynnie Inez Ferguson Blaine, 94, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Windsor Place in Columbus, Mississippi. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Inez was born October 10, 1927, to Marshall and Effie Carter Ferguson in Louisville. She attended church at Shiloh Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday school class. Inez, a homemaker, was an excellent seamstress and she also loved to crochet; she made many beautiful afghans and keepsakes for her family and friends. She loved flowers and enjoyed growing such beautiful ones. Inez was a fun-loving grandmother who taught and played board and card games with her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren. She was also an excellent cook and gave each of her boys and their family a handwritten cookbook of her recipes.

Inez is survived by three sons: Danny A. Burns and wife Susan of Columbus, Jerry M. Burns and wife Sheryl of Grandin, Florida, and Robin G. Blaine of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Grandma” to her grandsons Yancy (Shanda) Burns and Daniel (Misty) Burns and to her five great-grandchildren: Dylan and Madilyn Burns and Morgan, Harper, and Evan Burns. She also leaves behind a sister Rachel Tucker, a brother Hubert (Wanda) Ferguson, and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Winston Miles Hayes, Clay Ferguson, LeeElla Miles, Jean Rodgers, and Cecil (Cil) Huntley.

Miss Sarah Emily Catt, 22, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Sarah was born July 23, 1999, in West Point, MS. She was a 2018 graduate of Winston Academy, and a student at Mississippi State University. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Donnie and Linda Crowder, and Stanley and Daphne Catt.

She is survived by her mother, Monica Arnault Catt of McCool, MS; her father, James (Leigh Ann) Catt of Starkville, MS; her siblings, Will Catt, Gage Morgan, Shelby Morgan, and Hunter Morgan, all of Starkville, MS; and her grandparents, Larry and Sandy Arnault of Searcy, AR, and David and Ancie Duncan of West Point, MS.

Pallbearers will be John Catt, John Douglas Barker, Jason Warner, Craig Arnault, Marty Crowder, Clay Crowder, Neil Fortenberry, Tyler Fortenberry, Mikell Bradberry, and Mackey Bradberry.

Bobby Gene Eskridge

Mr. Bobby Gene Eskridge, 82, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at his home in Vestavia, AL. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 13th, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Porter Funeral Home. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eskridge was born April 27, 1939, in Louisville, MS, the son of Totsie and Bob Eskridge. He was a truck driver, and served in the National Guard of many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynne Vickers Eskridge.

He is survived by his children, Rob (Sheila) Eskridge of Triangle, VA; John (Frances) Eskridge of South Mills, NC; and Sharron (Tim) Stevens of Vestavia, AL; and her beloved grandchildren, Brandon Murphy, Natalie Murphy, Lauren (Jack) Gutschlag, Nathan Eskridge, Kayla Eskridge, and Emily Eskridge.

Sharon Lindsey Alexander was born August 14, 1959, in Ackerman, MS to Lindsey and Dorothy Alexander. Sharon is survived by a sister, Barbara Hogaboom of Apex, NC, and a brother, Danny Alexander (Diane) of Starkville, MS: a niece, Mandi Anderson (Steve): four nephews, Bruce Pearson, Johnny Alexander (Laura), Derek Hogaboom (Maureen), Grant Alexander; two great-nieces, Cassi Wells (Trevor), Kathryn Hogaboom; three great-nephews, Edison Hogaboom, Mason Alexander, and Rémy Anderson; and a host of cousins.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Lindsey and Dorothy Alexander, and a brother Doug Alexander.

Sharon was a resident of Starkville, MS and retired from Mississippi State University on August 15, 2016, after 22 years of devoted service. Sharon was an avid Mississippi State Men's Basketball supporter and fan. She held season tickets for many years up until her health no longer allowed her to attend the games at the Hump.

Sharon could be described as a loving sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was a doting aunt and loved receiving pictures of her nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to her often as ShayShay. She loved her family with all of her heart and never failed to save sent photographs of them on her phone to look back on later. 

To her doctors and nurses, she was a brave and determined patient who had fiercely battled stage 4 terminal, metastatic breast cancer continuously for 5-1/2 years. She seldom complained, although her family knew that she endured pain and discomfort from the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. In the end, she left her earthly home bound for her heavenly home on her own terms and by the grace of God passed away peacefully in her home.

Sharon's family is grateful for her oncologist, Dr. Amber Borden and radiology oncologist, Dr. Robert Jones, Breast Health, and Imaging, as well as all of the nurses and other medical staff who were with her through 5-1/2 years of continual cancer treatment protocols. They are also grateful for Kindred Hospice for the care she was given during the final weeks of her illness. The family would also like to thank Sharon's cousins who faithfully visited her and checked on her daily and three special ladies who assisted them with her care: Chekila Young, Hattie Kelly, and Liz Kennard.

Melissa Eaves Barrier

Melissa Eaves Barrier, 41, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Visitation will be Monday, November 8 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 9 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Marlon Adcock officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in Memorial Cemetery.

Melissa was born March 8, 1980, to Wayne and Linda Burks Eaves in Louisville. Melissa, or “Pearlie” as she was affectionately called by her family, enjoyed shopping and decorating her yard for every occasion. She also loved to plan special events for birthdays and holidays, and she enjoyed fishing. Most of all, she dearly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Melissa is survived by her husband Stephen Barrier and her three children: Hunter Shafer, Kayla Yates (Zachary) Gatlin and Abby Childs all of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Mimi” to her granddaughters Eden Rose and Laken Gatlin; and she was looking forward to the birth of her first grandson, Stetsyn Sheets, in March 2022. Melissa never missed a chance to show pictures of her granddaughters and talk about their latest adventures. She also leaves behind her mother Linda Burks Eaves, her brother Steven (Mallory) Eaves, her aunt Joyce Eaves, cousins Michael Eaves and Jamie (Maegan) Eaves, and her niece Amaury as well as a host of friends. Melissa was preceded in death by her father Wayne Eaves.

Rickey Wayne McKay

Rickey Wayne McKay, of Ackerman, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 5, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Monday, November 8th, at Chester Baptist Church, with Rev. Bobby McKay and Rev. Rob Faulk officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Chester Baptist Church. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery near Ackerman, MS.

Rickey was born on August 17, 1951. He was 70 years old. A native of Louisville, he grew up on a farm in the Ellison Ridge community of Winston County.  He was a graduate of Louisville High School and later received his formal education from Clarke College and Mississippi College. At the age of 17, he surrendered to the gospel ministry that would lead him to serve as pastor in churches across Mississippi. He served churches in Ackerman, Weir, Daleville, Carthage, Walnut Grove, Greenwood, Batesville, Kosciusko, Houston, and Louisville. As with the case for most pastors, they are only as effective as much as they have a spouse to support and encourage them. He had such a wife when he married Rachel Jenkins, formerly of Chester. She complemented his ministry with her beautiful singing voice and talent on the piano. The last few years of his life were a challenge due to health issues, but Rachel never left his side, and became his biggest advocate and the rock on which he leaned. They were married for 49 years.

Rickey had a few passions in his life. It has been noted that his wife, children, and grandchildren were the greatest joys and loves of his life. He once stated the happiness he received from his grandchildren was the best medicine he ever took. However, first and foremost, was his love for Jesus Christ. This was evident in the 50 plus years of pulpit ministry. In his lifetime, Rickey preached thousands of sermons and officiated an untold number of weddings and funerals. His love for Scripture permeated his messages and approach to how he treated people. Other loves he possessed were knife collecting, anything related to Mississippi State, and the Boston Celtics.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Bobby) McKay and Dorothy McKay both of Louisville.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Jenkins McKay of Ackerman, daughter Ericka McKay Miller (husband Jay) of Pontotoc, son Bobby D. McKay (wife Amy) of Brookhaven, and 3 granddaughters Celeste Rachel Clayton, Mary Lawrence McKay, and Lydia Catherine McKay. He is also survived by his brother, Ernie McKay (Donna) of Ackerman and sister Leasa McKay of Flowood and a host of nieces and nephews.

Audley Ivan Reynolds Jr.

Mr. Reynolds, 88, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at his residence in Winston County where he lived most of his life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired from Georgia Pacific. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, gardening and sports. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as a longtime deacon. 

Preceded in death: Parents, Audley Ivan Reynolds Sr. and Gladys Oda Parker Reynolds; Sister, Rebekah Reynolds; Brothers, W.J., Grady, Alton and Emmitt Reynolds. 

Survivors are his wife, Shirley June Reynolds of Noxapater; Daughters, Beverly Terry (Jeff) of Noxapater, Linda Jo Peoples (Bro. Shelly) of Standing Pine and J.J. Ball (Will) of Noxapater; Son, Ricky Gene Reynolds (Cecelia Kay) of Louisville; Sister, Margaret Holton of Meridian; (7) Grandchildren; Host of nieces and nephews.

Barbara Hendrix Mathews

Mrs. Barbara Hendrix Mathews, 79, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at her home in Louisville, MS. Barbara was born August 14, 1942, in Louisville, MS. She was a graduate of Mississippi University for Women, and was a teacher. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Durward Mathews, II; her parents, Iva and Talmadge Hendrix; a daughter, Hope Mathews; a son, Horace Durward “Sonny” Mathews, III; two brothers, Jerry Hendrix and Joe M. Hendrix.

She is survived by four sisters, Joy Childs of Louisville, MS, Rebecca Ellis of Louisville, MS, Linda (Randy) Childs of Arkadelphia, AR, and Sue (Charles) Quebedeau of Madison, MS.

Ronald "Cotton" Stokes

Ronald Wayne “Cotton” Stokes, 70, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 3 at South Louisville Baptist Church in Louisville with Bro. Trent Jaudon officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12 noon until service time at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service in Coy United Methodist Church Cemetery in Neshoba County.

Ronald was born November 5, 1950, to Les and Kathrine Stokes in Louisville. He was reared in the Nanih Waiya community where he attended school. After graduating from Nanih Waiya, he attended East Central Community College and Mississippi State University. After receiving a degree in business from Mississippi State, Cotton began his career by working for the Farmers Home Administration in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He returned to Louisville in 1978 while working with People’s Bank. In 1992, he transferred to BancorpSouth retiring in 2012 leaving a host of valued customers and friends. Cotton never met a stranger and was a friend to all he met. He valued his time on his farm, being outdoors, and spending time with his family, his cows, and his dog, Lucy.

Cotton is survived by his wife of 13 years Terri Bowen Stokes, a daughter Sonjia (Russ) McReynolds of Starkville, Mississippi, and his step-children: Emily Kohen of Fullerton, California, Chelsea Kohen of Shannon, Mississippi, and Chase (Libby) Kohen of Chattanooga, Tennessee. One of his greatest joys was being “Papa Cotton” to his grandchildren Mac and Sara Stokes McReynolds. He was proud of both of them and enjoyed supporting all of their endeavors. Papa Cotton never missed an opportunity to brag on his grandchildren or show their picture. He also leaves behind his brother Rodney (Paula) Stokes of Louisville, and a host of nieces and nephews. Cotton was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lamar Stokes, an infant brother, and his sister Susan Fulcher.

Serving as pallbearers are Ronnie Eubanks, Aubrey Holder, Buddy Miller, Jay Stokes, Allen Watts, and Lowell Wilson. Martha Ann Hall Crowell

Martha Ann Hall Crowell, 80, passed away with her loving family by her side on Monday, November 1, 2021, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Grenada in Grenada, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 4 at Murphy Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Coats and Bro. Mark Mayo officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service in Murphy Creek Cemetery.

Martha was born December 6, 1940, to Roscoe and Madge Proctor Hall in Jay, Florida. She was a 1958 graduate of Malone High School in Malone, Florida. Martha received her Bachelor degree in Elementary Education at Mississippi College, where she met her future husband. She enjoyed her 37-year teaching career at various schools as she followed Bro. Grady wherever the Lord led them to serve. For 20 of those years, she taught fifth grade social studies at Quitman Elementary School. She loved her students and became close to them; evidenced by many of them fondly referring to her as “Momma Crowell.” Currently, Martha was a member at Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada but she served as a devoted minister’s wife for all of their married life as Bro. Grady was already serving a church as pastor before they were married. Martha also enjoyed crocheting, painting, and playing the piano. She delighted in teaching a Ladies’ Bible study class and was an excellent seamstress which was demonstrated when she made her daughter’s intricate wedding dress.

Martha is survived by her husband of 58 years Rev. Grady Crowell, and her daughter Naomi McCaffrey and husband Tim all of Grenada, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Memaw” to her grandchildren Joshua (Allison) McCaffrey, Jordan (Chandler) McCaffrey, and Sarah (Kyle) Nations, as well as her great-grandchildren Asher, Archie, and Anderson McCaffrey, and was looking forward to the arrival of Blakely McCaffrey in March 2022. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Ann Holloway and her brother-in-law Jim (Nancy) Crowell, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Martha was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers: Proctor (Lucy) Hall, Roscoe (Frances) Hall, Jr., Glen Hall, and Wilbur (Betty) Hall.

Olive M. Gregory

Mrs. Olive. M. Gregory, 96, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at her home in the Nanih Waiya community. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 3rd, at Harmony Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Lundy and Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Mrs. Gregory was born November 11th, 1924 in Long Island, NY, to Olive Augusta Penny and William C. Mowbray, Jr. She was a homemaker, and a member of Harmony Baptist Church, where she was active in the Joy Group. She was preceded in death by her husband, Osler Beal Gregory; and her parents; and her step-mother, Naomi Drydon Mowbray.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Sammy) Robertson of Louisville; five sons, Terry Gregory of Louisville, Billy Gregory of Louisville, Bobby Gregory of Wade, MS, Tommy (Sue) Gregory of Sturgis, MS, and Ross Gregory of Louisville; two sisters, Jeanette Sturmer of New York and Judy LaVista of Raleigh, NC; one brother, William Mowbray of Raleigh, NC; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Bragg, Mathew Warren, Taylor Warren, Kevin Gregory, Ryan Gregory, and Jamie Gregory.

Virginia Willard Waldron

Virginia Willard Waldron, age 93, entered into the joy of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 31.

Virginia Waldron was a native of Lake Wales, FL and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Louisville. She was a homemaker, an accomplished seamstress, a Women’s Bible Study leader, and a cherished and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who daily lived out her faith in service to others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Esther Willard, her husband, Edward C. Waldron, Sr., her brother, Harry Caldwell Willard, and a great granddaughter, Mary Elise Slater.

She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Reese, and Kathy Goudelock (George), both of South Carolina, and by her two sons, Charles Waldron (Dianne) of St. Louis, MO and Ed Waldron (Linda) of Louisville. She is also survived by her niece Cary Brown (Bruce) of Virginia, and by 12 grandchildren and by 27 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend their special thanks to Dr. Sam Suttle, to her church family, and to those who tenderly cared for her during her final days.

Family graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, November 6th at 11:00 A.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Porter Funeral Home.
