Mrs. Alma Louise Molly Jane Thomas, 72, of Louisville, Mississippi, passed on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at the North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, Mississippi. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at 11 a.m., from the Mount Olive Bethany Harmony District Bldg., Louisville, MS. Visitation will be Monday, from 3 until 6 p.m., from the Funeral Home. Mrs. Thomas, will be placed in the District Bldg. one hour before service time. David Swain

Mr. James David Swain, 76, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at his home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 19th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Trent Jaudon officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

David was born October 28, 1942 in Jackson, MS to Julian Bailey and Laverne Horne Swain. He was a 1961 graduate of Noxapater High School. For many years he owned his own electronics repair business in downtown Louisville. After retiring, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, woodworking, genealogy research, and teaching himself to play the dulcimer and guitar. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Linda Whitmire Swain of Louisville, MS; three sons, Craig (Carol) Swain of Noxapater, MS, Adam (Marie) Swain of Louisville, MS, and Jason (Jayme) Swain of Macon, GA; his four grandchildren, Jon (Katie) Swain of Fayetteville, AR, Ashton Swain of Louisville, MS, Lenora and Luke Swain of Macon, GA; three sisters, Betty Moore of Sturgis, MS, Gloria Ming of Meridian, MS, and Vivian Tennenbaum of Daly City, CA; and one sister-in-law Marzene Whitmire of Louisville, MS. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Michael David Swain, and one brother, Julian Bailey Swain, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Dickie Caperton, Scot Bryan, Wayne Whitmire, Johnny Triplett, Kenneth Whitmire, Lamar Horne, Bennett Wilson, and David Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Blair, Kelvin Ball, and Jon Swain.

Ruth Davis Young

Mrs. Ruth Davis Young passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019, in Spring, TX. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 18th, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Porter Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Young was born April 24, 1931, in Louisville, MS, to Lula Mae and John Virgil Davis.
She is survived by three daughters, Karen Ockershauser of Spring, TX, Sandra Stocks of Clear Lake, TX, and Charlotte Burns of Durango, CO.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Mae Byrd, and two brothers, LeRoy Davis and John Cecil Davis.

Gertie Eaves White

Gertie Eaves White, age 87, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Morris Center for Care in Jacksonville, Florida. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 18 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Carr and Rev. Johnny Collins officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 9 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Murphy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.


Gertie was born April 10, 1932, in Winston County. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Winston County Chamber of Commerce. Gertie enjoyed her 20 year career at Bank of Mississippi as an Operations Officer; she loved being around people and helping others. Her grandchildren were her life and she attended any activity in which they were involved. Gertie loved attending sporting events and was an avid Alabama fan—“Roll Tide”—and was better at officiating than some officials on the field!

Gertie is survived by her son Jack White, Jr. and wife Jackie of Ponte Verda Beach, Florida; her daughter Teresa Carter and husband James of Louisville; her son-in-law Charley Mac Wade of Oxford, Mississippi; and her brother Carvel “Buddy” Eaves also of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Gran” to her six grandchildren: Brian (Jenny) White, Josh (Manne) White, Andy (Julie) White, Kimberly (Todd) Rogers, Jay Carter, and Natalie Wade. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren: Will-Corben (Alaina) Rogers, Landen Rogers, Taylor (Kelli) Moody, Brody Burchfield, Bella Burchfield; Jett Burchfield, Easton White, Asher White, Hayden White, Owen White, Charlie White, Waylon White, and Edie White; and many more who called her “Gran”. She also leaves behind a great-great-granddaughter Layton Ruth Moody and was looking forward to the birth of another great-great-grandchild in April 2020. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Oliver White, Sr.; daughter Jeannie Wade; grandchildren Stefanie Burchfield and Eric Wade; her parents John W. and Belle Livingston Eaves; her biological mother Welmer Stokes Eaves; two brothers Junior Eaves and Leon Smith; and two sisters Zellowene Pearson and Dot Pogreba.

Serving as pallbearers are Taylor Moody, Landen Rogers, Will-Corben Rogers, Andy White, Brian White, and Josh White. Theresa Bonelli Fulton

Theresa Bonelli Fulton, age 94, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, October 13 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Theresa was born March 13, 1925, to Joseph and Concetta Anastasio Bonelli in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit; and she was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Louisville. Theresa worked at Spartus Clock Factory, Mug ‘n Cone, and was founder and co-owner of The Nearly New Shop, consignment store, where she enjoyed her many loyal customers, and clothed some of her grandchildren, for over 30 years. Mrs. Fulton enjoyed fishing; traveling; and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Theresa is survived by her loving husband of 77 years, Bernard W. Fulton of Louisville. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing five sons: Bernard Lee Fulton and wife Glenda; Lennie Fulton and wife Babs; Gary Fulton and wife Sue; Roy Dale Fulton and wife Melisa; Jody Fulton and wife Billie Jean; and a daughter-in-law Shiela Fulton. One of her greatest joys was being “Mamaw” to her grandchildren: Greg Fulton; Stephanie (Brian) Horan; Brian (Ali) Fulton; Brent (Lori) Fulton; Kim (Paul) Killen; Kenny (Laura Beth) Fulton; Jacob (Katie) Fulton; Dru (Cassidy) Crenshaw; Candace (Jimmy) Rushing; Jessica Fulton (Chris Amis); and Lorynn (Wes) Tanksley. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing 32 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and her sister Faye Kay. She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Annette Fulton; son Dan Fulton; grandson Bradley Fulton; three sisters and one brother.

Ruby Clark Coward

Ruby Clark Coward, age 101, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 17 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Thomas and Rev. Michael Wells officiating. Ruby was born November 24, 1917, to John Arch and Bertha Farish Clark in Winston County. She was a member of Union Ridge Baptist Church where she was active in various church activities. She played the piano and the organ and served many years as a Sunday school teacher for the Ladies class. Ruby was a true Bible student; faithfully reading her Bible through many times and she completed all the study courses offered by the state-wide Baptist organization. She was truly the hands and feet of Jesus to her community; always ready to minister to anyone during their time of need. Ms. Ruby enjoyed searching her family’s genealogy.

Ruby is survived by two daughters: Irma Smith and husband Dr. Elvin Smith II of College Station, Texas; and Nona Young and husband Johnny of Noxapater. One of her greatest joys was being “Grandma” to her four grandchildren: Elvin (Rebecca) Smith III; Forrest Smith; Kimberly (Jamie) Flake; and Chris Young. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing four great-grandchildren: Braxton Flake; Jaycie Claire Flake; Brayden Young, and Elvin Smith IV; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Herdie Coward; her parents; and her brother James Oliver Clark.

Mary White, age 85, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Noxubee County Nursing Home in Macon, Mississippi. Mary was born November 15, 1933 to Tom and Tamsel Acker in Alabama. She was a member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church for many years. Mary was a homemaker who loved to cook and take care of her babies which she kept in her home for many years. One thing is for sure, she loved being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary enjoyed life and was always spreading her love and cheer to everyone she met.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Neal White; her 4 daughters Kathy Hankins and husband Mike of Sulligent, Alabama, Nancy Jenkins and husband Tommy of Louisville, Ann Pigg and husband Daniel of Carthage and Dale Oglesby of Gordo, Alabama; and her brother Alfred Acker and wife Janice of Carrolton, Alabama. One of her greatest joys was being “Mammaw” to her grandchildren: Delisa Pennel and husband Sam, Teresa Eaves, Kayla Fulcher and husband Bruce, Tammy Cabiness, Mason Bennett and wife Shellie, Richie Wilson and wife Wanda, Shannon Hollis and husband Chris, and Daniel, Cody, and Tabitha Oglesby. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother and her four sisters.

James D. "Jimmy" Irving passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019, at St. Dominic Hospital, in Jackson, MS. He was 73 years old. Mr. Irving was born February 12, 1946, in Kosciusko, MS, to Davis M. and Myrtle(Bond) Irving.

Services will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, 10:30 a.m., at Ackerman Baptist Church, in Ackerman, MS, with Rev. Danny Irving and Pam Varner Fortenberry officiating. Ronald Ezell Carter

Mr. Ronald Ezell Carter, 83, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Baptist-Golden Triangle Hospital in Columbus, MS. Mr. Carter was born November 8, 1935, in Winston County, MS. He was a retired self-employed roofing contractor, and a Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fronie and Jessie Carter.

He is survived by a daughter, Judy Bellflower of Iuka, MS; a brother, Raymond Carter of Biloxi, MS; three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Hope Mathews

Ms. Hope Elizabeth Mathews, 49, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2019, at the Winston Medical Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 13th, at New Hope Cemetery in Louisville, with Mr. Steve Hendrix officiating. Hope was born November 24, 1969, in Jackson, MS to Durward Mathews, Jr. and Barbara Hendrix Mathews. She graduated from Heard Co. High School in Franklin, GA, and went on to attend Mississippi State University, where she earned a BS in Communication and Journalism.

She was preceded in death by her father, and her brother, Sonny Mathews. She is survived by her mother, Barbara Hendrix Mathews of Louisville; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Gene Childs, Chris Childs, Scott Hendrix, Chip Ellis, and Ashley Kuhn.

Gilbert Conner White

Mr. Gilbert Conner White, 85, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019, at his home in Louisville, MS. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 7th, at Covington Cemetery near Quitman, MS, with Rev. Perry Smith officiating. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. White was born December 2, 1933, in Louisville, MS. He was a graduate of Ellison Ridge High School and attended East Mississippi Community College. He retired as a machinist with Spartus Corp after 27 years. He was an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert “Chuck” White, II; and his parents, Dacy and Thomas White.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Smith White of Louisville; four sons, Thomas (Janet) White, Jason (Carol) White, and Shawn (Lori) White, all of Louisville, and Mark (Robin) White of Big Cabin, OK; seven grandchildren, Kelsey White, Dakota White, Shelby White, Trevor White, Max White, Marley White, and Bella White; and three great grandchildren.

Virginia Franklin Edwards

Virginia Franklin Edwards, age 87, passed away with her loving family by her side on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Oktibbeha County Hospital Regional Medical Center in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Monday, October 7, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 8 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Dempsey. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Virginia was born October 30, 1931, one of 14 children born to Barney Whitfield “Mr. Whitt” and Ester Pope Franklin in the Mt. Pisgah Community of Weir, Mississippi. She attended West End Baptist Church. For the most part, Virginia was a homemaker but she also worked at various times at Spartus Corporation and TRW where she made many friends. She enjoyed attending gospel singings with her friends and listening to music. She was very talented and crocheted many bedspreads, tablecloths, dishrags, and afghans for her family. Virginia enjoyed life and was always so happy spreading her love and cheer to everyone she met.

Virginia is survived by two daughters Tracey Edwards Coleman and husband Wesley of Louisville; and Jennifer Edwards Yancy and husband Jimmy of Taylor, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Mamaw” to her four grandchildren: Megan Reneá Edwards, Kaitlyn Dachelle Edwards, Laura Leigh Verry, and Whitt Chandler Yancy. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Edwards; her grandson Robert Carlton Yancy; her parents; four brothers: James, Charles, Homer, and Tommy; and her sisters Minnie, Ida Mae, Bessie, Aaron, Frances, Estelle, Willie and Lucille.

Yvonne Miller Young

Yvonne Miller Young, age 82, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, October 4, 2019, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Yvonne was born April 11, 1937, to James and Nannie Pearl Chamblee Miller in Winston County. She was a graduate of Louisville High School and a member of Camp Ground United Methodist Church. Yvonne loved working in the yard enjoying the beautiful flowers she grew. She was a member of the Louisville Garden Club and Junior Auxiliary. Yvonne retired as Vice President of Regions Bank after working in the banking industry for many years. Most of all, she loved her family and her church family dearly. She was always ready to help anyone and was in attendance at any activity in which her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were participating. Yvonne was a true Southern lady and everyone that knew her, loved her.

Yvonne is survived by two sons Alan Young and wife Carol Sue of Louisville; and Mike Young and wife Angie of Greenwood, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Mimi” to her three grandchildren: Brittany Young, Chris Young, and Brandon and Meghan Young; as well as her four great-grandchildren: Lana Raye, Rhett, Saylor Jaymes, and Meredith Young. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing her brother James Hiliary Miller, Jr.; her nieces; and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Bobby Young; and her parents.

Roger William Oliver Hayes

Roger William Oliver Hayes, 81, of Ackerman, Mississippi, passed on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, in Starkville, Mississippi, from an Auto Accident. A Memorial Service is being planned for Oct. 26, 2019, at 11 a.m., from the Beck Funeral Home. Beck Funeral Home of Louisville in charge of arrangements.

Robert R. Wall Jr.

Robert R. Wall, Jr., age 64, passed away at his residence in Noxapater, Mississippi, on Tuesday,

October 1, 2019. Visitation will be Thursday, October 3, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 4 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Fondren officiating. Interment will follow in Noxapater Methodist Cemetery.

Robert was born April 18, 1955, to Robert “Bob” Wall, Sr. and Joy Kilpatrick Wall in Winston County, Mississippi. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout; graduated from Noxapater Attendance Center; and he was a member of Noxapater Baptist Church. He attended Mississippi State University and earned a degree in Business. Robert retired after many years as a car salesman from the Ford Motor Company. For the last 27 years, Robert has served the Town of Noxapater as an elected Alderman. In 2011, he served as the president of the Winston County Chamber of Commerce. He and others were instrumental in establishing the Car Show as a part of the Noxapater Cotton Gin Festival. Obviously, Robert had a love for cars. He and J. B. Allen built motors and raced cars at the Magnolia Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi; and he also enjoyed attending NASCAR races at Talladega. He would tell you that he was “the baddest fellow in town” but Robert was known for being fair to everyone and having a good heart toward others; helping in any way he could. For example, Robert was not a Shriner but he sold many bags of onions and many cases of cheese to help the Shriners. Loving his community as he did, Robert made the original “Welcome to Noxapater” signs that welcome visitors on the north and south sides of town and he was responsible for the town slogan “Great People by Nature.”

Robert is survived by a host of cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Ashley Linch.

Susan Barnhill

Susan Napiorkowski Barnhill, age 68, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Darnis officiating. Interment will follow in Murphy Creek Cemetery.

Susan was born June 18, 1951, to Stanley and Lois Earll Napiorkowski in Chicago, Illinois. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Susan always enjoyed being surrounded by her family but most of all she loved spoiling her grandchildren and cooking for those she loved.

Susan is survived by her daughter Lois Barnhill; and her son Kenneth Barnhill and wife Janet all of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Grandma” to her five grandchildren: Pvt. Joseph Barnhill, Kara Barnhill, Joshua Barnhill, Kaylee Barnhill, and Kristen Barnhill. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing her siblings: Teddy Napiorkowski, Kathy Napior, Tommy (Karen) Napiorkowski, Carole (Joe) Brooks, and John (Pam) Napiorkowski; as well as her brother-in-law John Stevens; her sisters-in-law Margaret Johnson and Wilma Napiorkowski; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Walter Max Barnhill; her parents; and five siblings: Stanley Napiorkowski, Ann Napior, Marie (Roger) Johnson, Judy Stevens, and Joan Volland.
