Don Cain

Mr. James Donald Cain, Sr. (Don), 67, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, from Sanctuary Hospice House of Tupelo, MS, after an extended illness.

Don was born on February 19, 1944, in Jackson, MS to the late James Thomas (J.T.) and Katherine Ross Cain. He grew up in Jackson, graduated Forest Hill High School and Hinds Junior College. While working at Warren Brother Construction Company, he met his wife Carol Bourland and married on December 20, 1969. They moved to Louisville, MS where they established Black’s Department Store. Later, Don retired from being a regional sales manager for Warren Reed, Inc. of Birmingham in 1997.

Don dedicated his time to the Lord through loving his family and serving others. He had an affinity for carpentry and woodworking, and his craftmanship can be found in his home, his children's homes, and throughout the community. Don also had an eye for photography, graduating the New York Institute of Photography in 2008, and was a charter member of the Louisville Paparazzia. You can find a few of his Mississippi photos published in Oh! That Reminds Me: More Mississippi Homegrown Stories by Walt Grayson. Don has touched many lives with his sense of humor, creativity, generosity, testimony, and love.

Don was a devout husband, father, and the best Papa a child could have. He is remembered by his wife, Carol Bourland Cain; his children, Emily Malley (Tommy) of Florence, Beth Jolley (Evrette) of Shannon, Angela DeBoer (Maj. Joel) of Monterey, CA, Jay Cain (Nisreen) of Starkville, and Thomas Cain (Kristalyn) of Tupelo; and his sister, Linda Lowe (Ron) of Pensacola, FL. His grandchildren have fond memories with him, including fishing, riding the tractor, and the many laughs they shared with their grandfather.

The memorial service will be led by close friends and family members on Saturday, September 3, at 5:00 P.M. The event will take place outdoors at the Cain’s land at 1150 Bond Road, Louisville, MS. Dress casually.

Don appreciated what many faith-based nonprofits have done in his community and often contributed time and resources to these organizations. In memory of Don, we prefer that your generous gifts of flowers be given in donation to Palmer Home for Children (http://palmerhome.org), Habitat for Humanity (http://www.habitat.org), or Faith Life Church (http://www.flcbranson.org).
