Mamie S. Gordon

Mamie S. Gordon, age 93, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at Oktibbeha County Regional Hospital in Starkville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2020, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Allday officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Interment will follow in Bethsalem Cemetery in Choctaw County.

Mamie was born December 8, 1926, to Emory and Ruby Sellers in Attala County. She was a member of West Union Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Gordon was retired from Louisville Public Schools as manager of Eiland Middle School cafeteria and she drove a school bus for 29 years. She was a past member of the Louisville Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Mrs. Gordon is survived by two daughters Lyndia McCool of Louisville; and Judy Gordon Harper of Ridgeland, Mississippi; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Mamie is preceded in death by her husband Hugh Gordon; two grandchildren; her parents; two sisters and one brother.

Serving as pallbearers are Gordon Eaves, David Blaine, Wayne Veazey, Steve Apple, Jimmy Hudspeth, and Keith Hudspeth. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Mrs. Gordon may be given to a charity of your choice.

Patrick Wayne Nevels

Mr. Patrick Wayne Nevels, 66, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at his home in McCool, MS. He was born November 19, 1953, in Memphis, TN. He had worked at the Silver Star Casino in several capacities, most recently in maintenance. He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Wayne Nevels. 

He is survived by his fiancé, Rhonda Breckenridge of McCool, MS; his mother Bettye Wixon Nevels Dunaway of Gulfport, MS; three sisters, Vera Lynn (Robert) Quin, Margaret Gail (Thomas) Rice, and Karen Nevels (Howard) Dysart, all of Gulfport, MS; a brother, David Keith (Pamela) Nevels of Gulfport, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Gulfport, MS.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Lee Andrew Hughes, Jr., 27, passed on Monday, December 23, 2019, in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at 1 p.m., from the Mount Olive Bethany Harmony District Bldg., 120 Armstrong Street, Louisville, MS. Visitation will be Monday, from 3 until 6 p.m.,from the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Louisville Memorial Cemetery. Louise Stone Adams

Louise Stone Adams, 86 passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at her home in Noxapater, MS surrounded by family. Funeral services were held Friday, December 27 at 2PM at Stephens Chapel Funeral Home in Philadelphia, MS. Interment was in Mars Hill Cemetery in Winston County. Visitation was Friday 12 noon until time of service.

Mrs. Adams was born in Itta Bena, MS to parents Herman and Dolly Stone but grew up in the Zama community near Kosciusko, MS. She married Edsel Adams in 1952 and in 1955 they moved to Greenwood, MS and lived there for 22 years. Mrs. Adams was a telephone operator at South Central Bell and later a mother and homemaker. In 1979 her family moved to Noxapater, MS and she resided there for the rest of her life. For over 20 years she worked hard to run the family poultry business and then retired to tend her garden, attend Church functions, and enjoy being a grandmother.

Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, Arden, Doris, Evon, Lee, and Grady Stone, and a sister, Dorothy Lott. She is survived by her husband Edsel Adams, daughter Carolyn Woods (Ken) of Acworth, GA, son Michael Adams of Long Beach, MS and 2 grandsons, Adam Woods of Marietta, GA and Andrew Woods of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Adam Woods, Andrew Woods, Tony Adams, Alan Stone, Eddie Frost, and James Adams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church in Noxapater, MS, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Lila Mae King passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at her residence, in Ackerman, MS. She was 86 years old. Mrs. King was born September 28, 1933, in Choctaw County, MS, to Jim and Bessie(Weaver) Perry.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS. Visitation will be Friday, December 27, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. till service time.

Mrs. King is survived by 1 son, Mike(Ann) King of Ackerman, MS, 1 daughter, Pam(Woody)Simpson of Ackerman, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, C.B."Red" King, her parents, 2 sons, Frank King and Rusty King, and 1 great-grandson, Dalton Peacock.

Sara Dempsey Brown

Sara Dempsey Brown, age 85, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, December 25, 2019, in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Friday, December 27, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Trent Jaudon officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10 a.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Interment will follow in Whitehall Cemetery.

Sara was born October 15, 1934, to Rural and Katie Lou Cockrell Dempsey in Winston County. She was a member of Whitehall Methodist Church where she enjoyed participating in various activities until her health prevented her from doing so. She was also a member of the Pilot Club of Louisville where she was involved in helping those with brain related disorders. Sara enjoyed working. For 20 years, she worked in the office at Fair Company; and for another 20 years, she worked at InterCity Bank. For several years, she also worked for Nowell Funeral Home until her health prevented her from continuing to serve others.

Sara is survived by her husband of 61 years Bud Brown; and her son Lee Brown and wife Brittany. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Grace Dempsey, Louise Dempsey, and Maxine Dempsey all of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Grammy” to her four grandchildren: Tripp Brown, Ella Brown, Makenzie King; and Cayden Brown; as well as her great-granddaughter Sadie Brown. Sara is preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers Billy Ray “Jim”, David, and Noble Rural Dempsey.

Serving as pallbearers are Lee Brown, Tripp Brown, Dwight Dempsey, Jason Dempsey, Mark Dempsey, and Russ Nowell. Memorials in honor of Sara may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P. O. Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.

Mavis Goldman Addkison

Mrs. Mavis Goldman Addkison, 93, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2019, at the Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 27th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Heath Hillman officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mars Hill Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mavis was born January 3, 1926, in Neshoba County, MS, to Icey Kelly Goldman and Floyd Goldman. She was a line worker at TRW, and a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Edgar Burkes and Quinton Addkison; one daughter, Betty Parkes; three brothers, Fred Cuevas Goldman, Willard Goldman, Archie Goldman; and her parents. 
She is survived by a daughter, Peggy (Ray) Ingram of Louisville, MS; one son, Billy (Sherry) Burkes of Sardis, MS; two sisters, Marie Myers of Noxapater, MS, and Waldine Nowell of McCool, MS; six grandchildren, Carol (John) Clark, Tracey (Bobby) Baker, Tonya (Brad) Burkett, Bill Parkes, Ashley (Mitchell) Rogers, and Tiffany Burkes; and eight great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Baker, John Clark, Clarence Goodin, Brad Burkett, and Cameron Clark.

Bobbie J. Peden

Bobbie J. Peden passed away Friday, December 20, 2019, at Choctaw County Nursing Center, in Ackerman, MS. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Peden was born June 25, 1930, in Calhoun County, MS, to James Hermon and Jessie Lee(Sutton)Wood.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019, 10:00 a.m., at Salem Cemetery near Ackerman, MS.

Mrs. Peden is survived by 2 sons, Billy(Sandy) Peden of Ackerman, MS, Wayne Peden of Ackerman, 2 daughters, Susie(Bill) Tate of St. Augustine, FL, Darlene(Larry) Box of Fredericksburg, VA, 2 brothers, Joe Wood and Bill Wood, 3 sisters, Edna Blosser, Nell Stack, Margie Beuche, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Peden was preceded in death by her husband, W.A. Peden, her parents, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Sherry Dempsey Brown

Sherry Dempsey Brown, age 63, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 20, 2019, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 23, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Melvin Mordecai officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12 p.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Interment will follow in Welcome Chapel Jesus Name Church Cemetery.

Sherry was born September 26, 1956, to Norman “Bully” and Hilda Worrell Dempsey in Winston County. She was a member of Welcome Chapel Jesus Name Church and was a retired flatbed truck driver for Chad Turner. Sherry enjoyed boating on the lake with Greg, watching football games, and taking short day trips around the state. She also dearly loved her dog, Max, whom she referred to as “Robin’s little brother”. Max was always there to help her overcome difficult times especially during the last couple of years.

Sherry is survived by her husband Greg Brown of Louisville; and her children: Robin Barnett of Rome, Georgia; Kelly (Jake) Thompson of Louisville; Dana Brown of Starkville, Mississippi; Fran Barnett (Bonin) Rodrigue of Houma, Louisiana; Bennon (Lori) Schuler of Jackson, Mississippi; and Shea (Allison) Schuler of Kosciusko, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Mamaw” to her nine grandchildren. Sherry is preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters Mavis Alexander and Norma Howard.

Beryl Holton Womble

Mrs. Beryl Holton Womble, 90, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 in the home of her daughters Beverly Parker and Deborah Myers in Houston, Texas with whom she had lived for three and one-half years. Goodbyes and her funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. on December 30th, at Good Hope Baptist Church, with Reverend Jason Gross officiating. Visitation will be at Good Hope Baptist Church after the service in the fellowship hall. Interment will be in the Good Hope Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home will handle the arrangements.

Beryl was born August 3, 1929 to Arona and Willie Holton in Louisville, Mississippi. Beryl and Royce were married December 5, 1945 and at the time of his passing June 16, 2013, they had been married 67 years. She and Royce both were born and grew up in the area before moving to Memphis, Tennessee, where they lived for 33 years. When Royce retired in 1987, they moved back to Mississippi where they loved, lived and worked on their farm which Royce named The Low Chaparral. Both were members of Good Hope Baptist Church where Beryl taught primary Sunday School classes.

Beryl is survived by her daughters, Beverly Parker and Deborah Myers, her granddaughter Meredith Marie, her husband Christian Christensen, and two great grandchildren, Neil Moeller and Elisabeth Mae Christensen all of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Scott of Quinlan, Texas.

Elsie Estes Carter

Elsie Estes Carter, age 90, of Noxapater, Mississippi, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, at Noxapater Baptist Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, under the direction of Marc McCool. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Elsie was born October 4, 1929, to Littleton “Wert” Worthy and Lottie Craig Estes. She was a devout Christian and a member of Noxapater Baptist Church. Elsie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a teacher for 38 years, 36 of those at Noxapater Attendance Center where she taught fourth grade for most of those 38 years. She spent her first two years of her career teaching in Moss Point, Mississippi. She touched numerous lives during her years of teaching providing her students with a Christian role model and a life example.

Elsie is survived by her daughter Donna Spiers and husband Graylon of Starkville, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Mutter” to her granddaughter Leslie Spiers also of Starkville. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing her sister Jean Woodruff; and her brother Jerry Estes and wife Ilene all of Louisville. Elsie is survived by four sisters-in-law: Patti Estes, Sylvia Estes, Faith Estes, and Jane Estes; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years J. C. Carter; her parents; her sister Maxine McCool; four brothers Dee Estes, Wayne Estes, Bob Estes, and M. O. Estes; and two brothers-in-law Dee McCool and Don Woodruff.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brett Estes, Hal Estes, Joey Estes, Patrick Estes, Marc McCool, Mike McCool, Robert McCool, and Donnie Woodruff. Jerry L. Gazaway passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Baptist Hospital, in Memphis, TN. He was 53 years old. Jerry was born August 15, 1966, in Oktibbeha County, MS, to Walter and Ella Ruth(Oswalt) Gazaway.

Laveeda Elizabeth Estes

Services for Laveeda Elizabeth Estes will be held Friday, December 20, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Randy Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Mars Hill Cemetery in Winston County. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 19, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Mrs. Estes, 67, died Monday, December 16, 2019, at Baptist Golden Triangle Regional Medical Center in Columbus.

She was a native of Pascagoula, MS, and resided in Noxapater after marriage to her husband, Tonnie Earl Estes, who preceded her in death in 2004. She retired from Silver Star Casino where she worked as a dealer; and formerly worked in banking in Louisville, MS. She was a former member of the Thursday Club of Walnut Grove. Mrs. Estes was Baptist by faith.

Survivors include parents, James Wilson Clark and India Smith Clark; sisters, Gwen Baskin of Theodora, AL, Benita May (Keith) of Memphis, TN, and Freida Estes of Noxapater; brothers, Larry Clark (Mary) of Moss Point, MS, and Randy Clark of Pascagoula, MS; numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.

Mrs. Estes was preceded in death by stepson, Little Tonnie Estes.

W. W. "Boyd" Duran

W. W. “Boyd” Duran, 94, passed away Monday, December 16, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Hight Assembly of God Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, with Rev. Tom Bentley officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service in Hight Assembly of God Church Cemetery.

Boyd was born on July 16, 1925, to John Newton and Lessie Mae Robertson Duran. He was a member of Hight Assembly of God Church. For more than 25 years, he worked as a machinist at Taylor Machine Works. Also included in his work experiences was the time he spent working at Fair Lumber Company and Wells Church Furniture. Boyd also enjoyed working in his garden. Really, he just loved to work.

Boyd is survived by his daughter Maxine Duran Luke and husband Larry of Madison, Mississippi; and his son Larry Duran and wife Frances of Noxapater. One of his greatest joys was being “PawPaw” to his two grandchildren William Stacy (Gwyn) Luke; and Michael Ryan (Leilani) Luke. He also dearly loved being “PawPaw Duran” to his two great-grandchildren Eli A. Luke and James K. Luke. He also leaves behind to mourn his passing a sister Mary Kugle; a sister-in-law Ruth Duran; and two brothers Howard Duran and Ralph (Murle) Duran. He was preceded in death by his wife Willie Pearl Duran; his grandson James Everett Duran; his parents; his sister Linnie Ballard, Gracie Kelly, and Nannie Baysinger; and five brothers: Homer, Horace, Lewis, Frank, and Bob Duran.

Memorials in honor of Boyd may be given to Hight Assembly of God Church, 2224, Hight Moore Road, Noxapater, MS 39346.

Ann Mayo

Ann Ball Mayo, born May 16, 1931 in Louisville, Mississippi died peacefully on December 11 at Beehive Homes of Philadelphia, Mississippi where she had been a resident since 2016. 

Visitation will be on Saturday December 14 from 10 until 12 with a service to follow at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville. The family will have a private burial service at Shiloh Baptist Church in Louisville, Mississippi.

Ann was born in Louisville, Mississippi and spent her entire life in Louisville. She was married to Hubert Edward Mayo, who died in 2006. Ann was the loving mother to two sons; Ray Hayes (Kathy) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Edward Mayo (Tonya) of Louisville Mississippi. She had four grandchildren; Nicholas Hayes of Nashville, Tennessee, Sarah Yellen (Abe) of Austin, Texas, Dalton Mayo and Camille Mayo of Louisville, Mississippi and one great grandchild, Owen Hayes of Lubbock, Texas.

She is survived by one sister; Delores Horton Glazier of Madison, Mississippi and one brother, Buddy Ball (Frances) of Louisville, Mississippi.

Nannie, as she was known by her family, was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making cakes and pies for her family and friends and hosting holiday “dinners” in her home. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, and cooking. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Louisville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, 3155 Shiloh Road, Louisville, MS 39339.

A special thanks to the wonderful staff of Beehive Homes of Philadelphia, Mississippi who lovingly cared for our mom these last years of her life.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 12th, at Harmony Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Lundy officiating. Mr. Williamson was born January 15, 1934, in Louisville, MS. He retired after many years as a supervisor for Berdo-Price Pipecoating Co. in Galveston, TX. He was a farmer and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Munch and Maree Williamson; a sister, Earline & John Martin; and two brothers, Troy & Tressie Williamson, and Travis Williamson.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie Rebecca Williamson of Louisville; three daughters, Angie (Mike) Etheredge of Louisville; Deborah (Robert) Tombrella, and Vickie (Luis) Herrera, both of Burnet, TX; a son, Ricky (Connie) Williamson, of Willis, TX; a sister, Erma Ruth Wilkerson of Pulaski, MS; a brother, James Marlon Williamson of Clinton, MS; nine grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Tombrella, Kevin Williamson, Ben Herrera, Mark Etheredge, Donald Williamson, Brian Williamson, Malcolm Williamson, and Keith Clark.

Ora Hisaw Robertson

Ora Hisaw Robertson, 89, passed away Monday, December 9, 2019, surrounded by her family at Anderson Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi. Visitation will be Saturday, December 21, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 22 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald Self officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in New Hope Methodist Cemetery.

On September 4, 1930, Ora was born to Hubert and Stella Ora Culpepper Hisaw. She was a member of Crystal Ridge Baptist Church. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ora is survived by her daughter Carolyn Marie Blaine and husband Sam of Kosciusko, Mississippi; and her son Terry Denzel Robertson of Burwyn, Illinois. She also leaves behind four sisters: Shirley Wilson of Crystal Springs, Mississippi; Joyce Robertson of North Riverside, Illinois; Helen Hemphill and Ann McBrayer of Alabama; and her brother Donnie Joe Hisaw and wife Carolyn of Louisville, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Grandmaw” to her seven grandchildren: Kenneth Edwards Koeder and wife Janet; Tanya Ora Hill and husband Carter; Christopher Koeder and wife Amanda; Tamara Watson and husband Deuron; Brittany Robertson; Terah Robertson; and Samantha Blaine. She also dearly loved her 12 great-grandchildren: Kodi Koeder; Ana Koeder; Rosie Koeder; Maddie Koeder; Lily Koeder; Violet Koeder Hill; C. J. Koeder; Alex Koeder; Trinity Koeder; Chasity Hill; Hazey Watson; and Octavia Watson. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Denzel Robertson; her parents; her sister Nancy Brasfield; and two brothers Walter and Johnny Ray Hisaw.

Tracy E. Lang

Tracy E. Lang passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019, at Choctaw County Regional Medical Center, in Ackerman, MS. She was 51 years old. Tracy was born April 11, 1968, in Jackson, MS, to Travis and Penny(Jones) Enlow.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at Chester Baptist Church near Ackerman, MS, with Rev. Rob Faulk officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. till service time at the church.

Tracy is survived by her father, Travis Enlow and step-mom Sue, of Raymond, MS, 1 daughter, Keylee Grace Lang of Ackerman, MS, 2 sons, Nevin Lang and Kellen Lang, both of Starkville, MS, 1 sister, Amanda(Brian) Clegg of Madison, MS, mother-in-law Rhodena Lang of Ackerman, MS, and sister-in-law Melinda(Rodney)Bowman of Ackerman, MS.

Jamie Michelle Scrivener

Jamie Michelle Scrivener, 30, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Monday, December 9 at Chester Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Faulk officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10 a.m. until service time at Chester Baptist Church in Choctaw County. Interment will immediately follow the service in Chester Cemetery.

Jamie was born October 28, 1989, to Jim and Michelle Scrivener in Columbus, Mississippi. She was a member of Chester Baptist Church. Jamie was a graduate of Starkville Academy, East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, and Mississippi University for Women where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications. Jamie’s love for sports was well-known by everyone she met. From the time she was six months old she was taken to every home Mississippi State baseball game, a tradition that continued through June when the Bulldogs hosted the Super Regional in Starkville. She attended several College World Series games to support her Bulldogs. In addition, she worked as the manager for the Scooba softball team while she attended school there and developed a love of professional football that took her to games in Dallas, Denver, and New Orleans to see her beloved Peyton Manning and the Broncos play.

Her dream job of working in sports was fulfilled when she became the Sports Information Director at Mississippi Delta Community College. She loved her time at Delta and became involved with all the aspects of the college community as well as the community of Indianola and the entire area.

Jamie is survived by her mother Michelle Jenkins Scrivener of Maben, Mississippi; and two brothers Clint Scrivener and wife Dana of Louisville; and Don Scrivener and wife Mary Martha of Lufkin, Texas. The real loves of her life were her nieces and nephews whom she adored being around: Elizabeth Jane Scrivener, Presley Jane Scrivener, and Rylee Jane Scrivener of Louisville; and Rani Emeline Scrivener, Andrew Hubert Scrivener, Jonas Campbell Scrivener, and James Walter Scrivener II of Lufkin, Texas. Jamie also leaves behind hundreds of friends, acquaintances and close family members. She was preceded in death by her father James Walter “Jim” Scrivener.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are members of the 2008-2010 East Mississippi Community College Softball Team.

Martha Sue Farish Snow Morris

Martha Sue Farish Snow Morris, a native of the Stallo community of Neshoba County, died Wednesday Dec. 4, 2019, at her residence in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was 85.

Sue (SueSue to her grands and great-grands), was born in Hazelhurst, the oldest child of the late Obe and Elsie (Harper) Farish. Growing up in Stallo, she spent many happy, carefree days playing with her siblings and close cousins and friends. She was a graduate of Noxapater High School. After graduation, she moved to Vicksburg where she worked as a telephone operator before marrying and raising her family in Vicksburg with her first husband, Homer Snow.

She remained in Vicksburg after the death of her husband until she reconnected with a former high school classmate, George Morris. They married and she moved to Myrtle Beach where she lived for the past 10 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Myrtle Beach and was an avid reader.

Other than her first husband, she was preceded in death by a great- granddaughter, Laiken Cole, and a son-in-law, Bert Parsons.

Survivors other than her husband include: two sons, Michael (Kay) Snow of Philadelphia and Shannon (Melissa) Snow of Slidell, LA; two daughters, Connie (Ben) Franklin of Boone, NC and Pamela Parsons of Brandon; seven grandchildren, Chris Snow, Brayden Snow, Kayla Grace Snow, William Parsons, Laura Cole, Carlee Fairchild and Brooks Norris; two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Fairchild and Connor Munday; a brother, Obe Farish of Dothan, AL; three sisters, Peggy Tucker of Hewitt, TX, Carol Vickers of Decatur, and Rebecca Smith of Louisville.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at John E. Stephens Chapel in Philadelphia. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Snow Family Cemetery, Stallo,

Johnny Arnell Williams

Mr. Johnny Arneal Williams, 63, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2019, at his home in Noxapater, MS. Johnny was born July 26, 1956, in Oak Grove, LA. He was a graduate of Kilbourne High School in Oak Grove, and a dragline operator for Red Hills Mining in Ackerman, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and James Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Peterson Williams of Louisville; two daughters, Leslie (Tommy) Bartholomew of Noxapater, and Misty Williams of Louisville; one son, Justin Williams of Texas; three sisters, Joyce Ann Williams of Monroe, LA, Barbara Drew of Texas, and Debra Murphy of Texas; one brother, Ronnie Williams of Texas; and seven grandchildren, Makayla Bartholomew, Brooks Bartholomew, Lilly Jordan, Jaylan McWilliams, Skye McWilliams, Thorn Michael Williams, and Katelyn Williams.

Gwen Hill

Gwen Hill, 85, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Fondren officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12 p.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Memorial Cemetery.

Gwen was born August 15, 1934, to Pillie and Zeola Etheridge McClure in Dixon Mills, Alabama. She was salutatorian of her graduating class at Sweetwater High School in Alabama. Gwen was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years where she taught Sunday school class for ladies, and loved singing in the choir. She moved her membership to Noxapater Baptist Church several years ago to be with her son and his family. She loved her Sunday school class there and was faithful until illness prevented her from attending. Gwen was best known as a loyal fan of Alabama football and baseball. She loved to read and enjoyed sharing her books with friends. After her retirement from Spartus Corporation, she worked for Dr. David Richardson as a receptionist and insurance clerk.

Gwen is survived by her son Jeff Hill and wife Lisa of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “MaMaw Gwen” to her two grandsons Brad Hill and wife Kristan; and Jason Hill; and her great-grandson Aiden Hill. She also leaves behind six brothers: Clifford, Bernard, Kenneth, Doug, Harry, and George McClure. She was preceded in death by her husband Ivey Jerome Hill; and three of her nine siblings Caldwell McClure, Joyce Dean McClure, and Jimmy McClure.

Serving as pallbearers are Brad Hill, Jason Hill, Aiden Hill, Joey Estes, Berry Johnson, and Charles Shotts. Memorials in honor of Gwen may be given to Noxapater Baptist Church, P. O. Box 251, Noxapater, MS 39346.

Faye Hensley Murphy

Faye Hensley Murphy, 87, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019, at her residence in Noxapater, Mississippi. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 3 at Noxapater Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Fondren officiating. A private family interment will be scheduled at a later date.

Faye was born February 13, 1932, to Thomas and Margaret Martin Hensley. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Baptist Hospital in Jackson. After becoming a registered nurse, she worked at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson and in Cleveland, Mississippi. Faye enjoyed working in her flowers and following her son who played baseball.

Faye is survived by her son Rick Murphy; her sister Mary J. “Tenie” Quinn; and her brother Nick Hensley and wife Patricia all of Noxapater. One of her greatest joys was time spent with her four grandchildren: Rikki (Glen) Rickles, Lei-Anne Murphy, Andy (Tara) Murphy, and Stephen (Lauren) Murphy. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Lily Todd, Addison Vestal, Ford Murphy, Mary Hensley Murphy, McKenzley Milbrand, Ella Murphy, Parker Murphy, and Leland Murphy. Faye is also survived by her devoted caregiver Dixie Moore; who was her best friend growing up and became more like a sister to her. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Anderson Murphy, Jr.; her son Steve Murphy; her parents; her sister Ann Holdiness; and two brothers Thomas L. and Martin Hensley.

James Garland Dempsey

James Garland Dempsey passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019, at Choctaw County Nursing Center, in Ackerman, MS. He was 86 years old. Mr. Dempsey was born February 23, 1933, in Winston County, MS, to Young P. and Bessie Mae(Romedy) Dempsey.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS, with Rev. Steve Wright officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. till service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery near Ethel, MS.

Mr. Dempsey is survived by 1 daughter, Karen Dickerson(Charles) of Kosciusko, MS, 1 sister, Lila Chandler of Weir, MS, 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
