Gwen Hill

Gwen Hill, 85, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Fondren officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12 p.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Memorial Cemetery.

Gwen was born August 15, 1934, to Pillie and Zeola Etheridge McClure in Dixon Mills, Alabama. She was salutatorian of her graduating class at Sweetwater High School in Alabama. Gwen was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years where she taught Sunday school class for ladies, and loved singing in the choir. She moved her membership to Noxapater Baptist Church several years ago to be with her son and his family. She loved her Sunday school class there and was faithful until illness prevented her from attending. Gwen was best known as a loyal fan of Alabama football and baseball. She loved to read and enjoyed sharing her books with friends. After her retirement from Spartus Corporation, she worked for Dr. David Richardson as a receptionist and insurance clerk.

Gwen is survived by her son Jeff Hill and wife Lisa of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “MaMaw Gwen” to her two grandsons Brad Hill and wife Kristan; and Jason Hill; and her great-grandson Aiden Hill. She also leaves behind six brothers: Clifford, Bernard, Kenneth, Doug, Harry, and George McClure. She was preceded in death by her husband Ivey Jerome Hill; and three of her nine siblings Caldwell McClure, Joyce Dean McClure, and Jimmy McClure.

Serving as pallbearers are Brad Hill, Jason Hill, Aiden Hill, Joey Estes, Berry Johnson, and Charles Shotts. Memorials in honor of Gwen may be given to Noxapater Baptist Church, P. O. Box 251, Noxapater, MS 39346.
