Sara was born October 15, 1934, to Rural and Katie Lou Cockrell Dempsey in Winston County. She was a member of Whitehall Methodist Church where she enjoyed participating in various activities until her health prevented her from doing so. She was also a member of the Pilot Club of Louisville where she was involved in helping those with brain related disorders. Sara enjoyed working. For 20 years, she worked in the office at Fair Company; and for another 20 years, she worked at InterCity Bank. For several years, she also worked for Nowell Funeral Home until her health prevented her from continuing to serve others.
Sara is survived by her husband of 61 years Bud Brown; and her son Lee Brown and wife Brittany. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Grace Dempsey, Louise Dempsey, and Maxine Dempsey all of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Grammy” to her four grandchildren: Tripp Brown, Ella Brown, Makenzie King; and Cayden Brown; as well as her great-granddaughter Sadie Brown. Sara is preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers Billy Ray “Jim”, David, and Noble Rural Dempsey.
Serving as pallbearers are Lee Brown, Tripp Brown, Dwight Dempsey, Jason Dempsey, Mark Dempsey, and Russ Nowell. Memorials in honor of Sara may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P. O. Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
