Elliott "E. L." Miles, Jr., age 74, passed away March 31, 2019, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Hazel Parker Reed, 93, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019, in Palm Coast, FL. She was the widow of Rev. Travis A. Reed, and is survived by a daughter, Doris Christopher, and a son, Tim Reed. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.






John Michael “Mike” Ellis

Mr. John Michael “Mike” Ellis, 82, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at his home in
Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, April 1st, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Childs and Mr. Charles Bond officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 noon until service time at the funeral home. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mike was born August 18, 1936, in Louisville, MS. He was a graduate of Louisville High School, and retired after 45 years as head of Research and Development for Taylor Machine Works. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp, and was a long-time volunteer with the Louisville Fire Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Libby Ellis; his parents, Rose Lee and John Henry Ellis; and a sister, Rosemary Woodward.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Patri Ellis of Louisville; his son, Michael, (Sheila) Ellis of Grenada, MS; and two grandchildren, Craven Ellis and Anaizabel Goodin Ellis.

Arlis Dean McDaniel

Arlis Dean McDaniel, 62, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 1, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Duncan officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12 p.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery in Weir, Mississippi.

Arlis was born March 7, 1957, to Marzene and Eunice Sanders McDaniel. He attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Choctaw County and was a retired Truck Driver.

Arlis is survived by his daughter Angela Mae Miller and husband Scott of Laurel, Mississippi; three sisters Vera McCarty of Weir; Deborah Coleman and husband Gary of Fulton, Mississippi, and Aleita Faye McDaniel of Weir; and by his brother, James Michael McDaniel and wife Lisa also of Weir. He also leaves behind two grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Serving as pallbearers are Riley “Red” Carithers, David Howard, Jeremy Howard, Ruben Howard, Steve “Crackhead” Liddell and Tim “Cowboy” Savell. Honorary pallbearers are Everett Curtis and Kenny “2 Dollar” Palmertree. Memorial contributions may be given to Nowell Massey Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses.

John Mack Long

Mr. John Mack Long, 62, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at John C. Stennis Memorial Hospital in DeKalb, MS. John was born October 9, 1956, in Laurel, MS. He was a graduate of Louisville High School and owner of Warrior Archery Shop. John loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, and baseball. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Long.

He is survived by his wife, Vicky Boydstun Long of Louisville; two sons, John Adam Long and Tanner Long, both of Louisville; his mother, Libby Gordon of Louisville; two sisters, Cynthia Collier and Sherry Conn of Louisville; a brother, Howard Long of Louisville; and three grandchildren, Tristan Long, Hayden Long, and Ledi Jaimes Long, and his mother-in-law, Shelby Jean Boydstun.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Sylvia Hood Wirgau

Mrs. Sylvia Hood Wirgau, 71, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at her home in Meridian, MS. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 21st, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Trent Jaudon officiating. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wirgau was born February 5, 1948, in Gadsden, Alabama, to Grace Irene and Hugh H. Hood. She was retired as a veteran’s specialist with the Veterans Administration. She was preceded in death by parents, and a son, Clayton Wirgau.

She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Harris of Nashville, TN; a brother, Hugh Hood, Jr. of Crestview, FL; two grandchildren, Rachel Miller and Sarah Harris; and great grandchildren, Isabella, Stevie, and Clayton Miller, and Irene Sahoo; and an aunt, Jean Moody of Louisville.



Olivia Lynn Collier

Olivia Lynn Collier passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at her residence in Ackerman, MS. She was 70 years old. She was born September 13, 1948, in Calhoun County, Mississippi, to Durwood T. and Imogene(Holloway) Britt. Ms. Collier was a retired homemaker.

Services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at Coleman Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, March 22, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. till service time, also at Coleman Funeral Home.

Ms. Collier is survived by 2 sons: Johnny Stokes of Ackerman, MS, and Jeremy Stokes of Pensacola, FL, 1 brother: Tommy Britt of Ackerman, MS, 4 sisters: Carolyn Bowman of Ackerman, MS, Cathy McClain of Ackerman, MS, Janice Lewis of Ackerman, MS, and Brenda Adams of Ackerman, MS.

Ms. Collier was preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister, Patricia Britt.

Thomas "Sonny Boy" Robbins

Thomas “Sonny Boy” Robbins, age 79, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 18, 2019, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 19, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Eaves and Rev. Jason Gross officiating. Interment will follow in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Sonny Boy was born July 20, 1939, to John Ben and Needham Moore Robbins in Winston County. He was a member of Ebenezer Pentecostal Church and was a welder at Taylor Machine Works. Sonny Boy enjoyed any outdoor activity especially fishing and picking up pecans. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He answered the call of his country by serving six years in the Army National Guard.

Sonny Boy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Faye Strait Robbins; and two daughters Lisa Hopkins and Linda Dalton and husband Jim all of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “Baby” to his five grandchildren: Elizabeth Dalton; Tanner (Chancee) Dalton; Chad Dalton; Tony Dalton; and Angie Seim. He also leaves behind to mourn his passing four siblings: James (Marie) Robbins; Barbara Fulcher; Rebecca (Aaron) Williamson; and Geniva Walker. He is preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings J. P. Robbins, J. L. Robbins, Bonnie Walker Triplett, Myrtis Bates, and Joy Gressinger.

Serving as pallbearers are Dan Eaves, Phillip Eaves, Gerald Ray Goodin, Willis Jones, Bobby Moody, Chris Moody, Wayne Moody, Coley Taylor, Terry Vernon, Cole White, and Danny White. 

The family requests that memorials be given to Ebenezer Pentecostal Church Building Fund, c/o Earnestine Lee, 2232 Ebenezer Church Road, Preston, MS 39354 to be used toward the construction of their new church building.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home, whom Sonny Boy considered his family, and to Dr. Dustin Gentry for the excellent care provided.

William T. "Bud" Shinn

Mr. William Thomas “Bud” Shinn, 91, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Louisville Healthcare. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 18th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Wayne Hill and Rev. Lawrence Runnels officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Betheden Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shinn was born December 21, 1927, in Louisville, MS. He graduated from Bond High School, and worked for many years for Taylor Machine Works as a welder and inspector. After retirement from Taylor, he owned and operated Shinn’s Grocery. He was a member of Singleton Baptist Church and the Betheden Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his a daughter, Wanda June Trusty; his parents, Pansy Inez and John Henry Shinn; a brother, Walter Curtis (Marion) Shinn; and brothers-in-law, George Davis, Arty Davis, and Deacon Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bettye Davis Shinn of Louisville; a daughter, Brenda (Charlie) Wright of Louisville; brother-in-law, Charles Davis, sisters-in-law, Patricia Davis, Judy Jones, and Marlene Davis; grandchildren, Krista Vowell, Kim (Judd) Boswell, Jason Burchfield, Wesley (Katelyn) Wright, Adam (Erin) Wright, and Lindsey (Daniel) Wright; great grandchildren, Peyton Wolf, Meghan Wolf, Lauren Peterson, Mamie Rae Boswell, Jax Boswell, Claire Boswell, Brody Burchfield, Bella Burchfield, Jett Burchfield, Hastings Morgan, and Kendall Wright.

Lydia Ruth Perrigin

Lydia Ruth(Brooks) Perrigin, 82, of Blountsville, AL, passed away on March 12, 2019, at her home surrounded by family.

Mrs. Perrigin was born March 23, 1936, in Reform, Mississippi to the late Lloyd Madison and Lydia(Dobbs) Brooks. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Mathew Perrigin, Jr., her parents, siblings, Evelyn Oswalt, Jo Nell Martin, Bailey Brooks, and Jerry Brooks. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Edna(Mark)Waller; granddaughters, Brooke(Brian)Schuler, Kimberly(Chris) Quick, and Hailey(Sam)Whaley; great-grandchildren, Hannah Sandker, Campbel Whaley, Riley Schuler, Katie Schuler, Bodie Quick and Sophie Schuler; siblings, Mayford Barrentine, Allen(Martha)Brooks, Marie Fulce, Etoyle(Jack)Bowman, Helen Cagle, Charlotte(Roland)Scroggs, Barbara(Billy)Palmertree, and Dempy Hawkins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019, 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home Chapel in Ackerman, MS, and Saturday, March 16, 2019, 1:00 p.m. till service time. Oscar Van “O.V.” Hull III

Mr. Oscar Van “O.V.” Hull III, 91, passed away on March 11, 2019, at his home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 13th, at 3:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until the service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

O.V. was born in Longview, MS to Oscar Van Hull, Jr. and Edna Bowie Hull, on July 18, 1927, and moved to Louisville at an early age. He was a graduate of Louisville High School, where he played on the 1944 state championship football team. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Missouri. Upon his return to Louisville, he worked as a Supervisor of Rigout and Paint for Taylor Machine Works, and retired after 42 years. Mr. Hull joined First Presbyterian Church in Louisville, and later moved his membership to West Union Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Edna Kaye Hull; and two brothers, Robert Hull and Porter Hull.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Joyce Bennett Hull; one daughter, Mary Joyce Boyles and husband Mike Boyles; one son, Oscar Van Hull IV; two grandchildren, Dr. Jon Michael Boyles and wife Tina, and Marianna Boyles Ballard and husband Kevin; five great grandchildren, Dr. Delta Boyles Stout and husband Dr. Jacob Stout, Jon Michael Boyles, Jr., Zachary Boyles, Dustin Ballard, and Micah Ballard; and three step-great grandchildren, Tanner, John Byers, and Tatum Salter.

Pallbearers will be Jon Boyles, Andy Bennett, Kevin Hudson, Cliff Hudson, J.B. Boyles, Zack Boyles, Dustin Ballard, Micah Ballard, and Dr. Jacob Stout.

Memorials may be made to Grace Christian School, or West Union Presbyterian Church.
