Charles "Smokey" Sneed

Charles M. “Smokey” Sneed, 65, passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 27, 2019, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Saturday, March 30, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville and Sunday from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 31 at Murphy Creek Baptist Church in Louisville with Rev. Mark Mayo officiating. Interment will follow in Murphy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Smokey was born November 15, 1953, to Charles Andrew and Mildred Maxine Bell Sneed in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church. Smokey was a Master Mason and Past Master of Beth Eden Lodge #205 F.&A.M. He was also a member of the York Rite of Louisville and Order of the Eastern Star, Louisville Chapter #60 Louisville. As a former Shriner, Smokey enjoyed escorting children to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Shreveport, Louisiana and he was a former member of the Mountain Men Masonic Degree Team. He was also a 40-year member of the Road Barons Motorcycle Club. Smokey was a Harley-Davidson Master Tech at Bumpus Harley-Davidson of Memphis. He answered the call of his country during the Vietnam War by serving as a Drill Sergeant in the United States Air Force.

Smokey is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rebecca “Becky” Rogers-Sneed of Louisville; by two daughters: Brandy Elisabeth Sneed-Pereira and husband Chris of Van Nuys, California; and Michelle Spencer and husband Dean of Oakland, Tennessee; and a sister Patricia Ann Sneed of Louisville. He also leaves behind a brother-in-law Cecil Rogers; sister-in-law Jodi Rogers; and nephew Cody Rogers all of Collierville, Tennessee. They all say Smokey was a great brother-in-law and an awesome uncle who will be greatly missed and loved always!! Smokey also leaves aunts, uncles and cousins of the Bell, Sneed, Williams, and Rogers’s families. He leaves behind a host of loving friends—way too many to list, but he loved them all very much as they also loved him. Last but not least, if the Good Lord in Heaven rides a Harley you can rest assured that it is being well-maintained at all times…Smokey Sneed would not have it any other way! He is also survived by his loving Shelties Lily and Cole; and his bobtail lynx cat, CheyAnne. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mildred Bell Sneed; by his father-in-law James W. Rogers and mother-in-law Leda Williams Rogers of Louisville, Mississippi/Memphis, Tennessee.

Serving as pallbearers are John “Wild” Burcham, Lonnie Ray Burcham, Tim Garretson, Duane Hicks, Tony Howard, Terry Nowell, and Danny Parkes. Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Bruce, Buddy Patterson, and James “Buckshot” Stevens.  

Smokey had special people in his life that he called “Mentors”: Bro. Charles Rook of Louisville; “Fuzzy” Cox, Past Grand Master of Mississippi F&AM of Brandon, Mississippi; Leslie Reeves of Grenada, Mississippi; William D. “Bubbie” Rogers and the late Robert Sloan both of Louisville; Marvin Weeks of Mathiston, Mississippi; and Helen Wright PGM, and other PGM and PGP of Eastern Star; and Gayle Adams PM. 

Memorials in memory of Smokey may be given to The Grand Lodge of Mississippi Foundation, Murphy-Martin Endowment Fund, P. O. Box 1030, Meridian, MS 39302 or to Shriners Transportation Fund, HAMASA Shriners, P. O. Box 365, Meridian, MS 39302 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Sanford Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103 or to the Youth Mission Fund at Murphy Creek Baptist Church, 5420 Bond Road, Louisville, MS 39339.
