Bess Hull Boswell


Bess Hull Boswell was born in LouisvilleMississippi, on June 18, 1924, to Archie Reed Hull and Frances Gage Hull.  She was Salutatorian of Louisville High School in 1942.  She graduated fromMississippi University for Women, the “W”, in 1946, with a major in English and Fine Arts.
She was an artist and an author, publishing her last work, a novel, in 2002.  She taught high school English and after returning for a Master of Education at Mississippi State University, taught Elementary School in PhiladelphiaMississippi for a number of years. She also assisted her husband in the century-old family business, Boswell Rexall Drugs.  She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, a past member of the Red Hills Fine Art Club, the New Era Club, and the Noxapater Civic Club. She was an active member of the Noxapater United Methodist Church, a choir member, and Sunday teacher for many years.

Mrs. Boswell, 88, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Church Street Personal Care facility in Ecru, Mississippi.  Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville,Mississippi, on Friday, June 29, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Noxapater United Methodist Church with Rev. David Meadows officiating and Rev. Roger Shock assisting.  Interment will be in Noxapater United Methodist ChurchCemetery
She is survived by her only sibling, Barbara Hull Green, of Itta Bena, and her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Herman Frank Boswell, Sr., of New OrleansLouisiana. She is also survived by six children, Dr. Susan Boswell Johnstone and husband, Jim, of Pontotoc, Mississippi; Webb A. Boswell, Jr. of Noxapater, Mississippi; Dr. Scott Hull Boswell and wife, Connie, of Jasper, Alabama; David Boswell and wife, Elizabeth, of Kemah, Texas; Kenny Boswell and wife, LeAnn, of Noxapater, Mississippi; and Will Boswell and wife, Joni, of Forest, Mississippi.  Mrs. Boswell is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 5 nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Webb Boswell, Sr., and two nephews, Richard Jackson Boswell and James Douglas Green. 

Serving as pallbearers will be her nine grandsons:  Michael Hull Johnson; David D. Robert Noah Palmer


Mr. Robert Noah Palmer, Jr., 68, of Y-CityArkansas, died in his home on Monday, June 18, 2012, at 12:05 p.m.  Visitation will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012, from 12 noon until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in LouisvilleMississippi.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2012, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will be in Murphy Creek BaptistChurch Cemetery in LouisvilleMississippi

Mr. Palmer was born on March 22, 1944.  Robert was an honoured Vietnam Veteran that earned a National Defense Medal.  Throughout his years, he served in the Navy, the Armed Forces and he was a mountain man that knew it all.  He was our Lord’s blessed soldier on sacred ground.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Palmer is survived by two daughters Sunny Angel Palmer of St. JohnsArizona; and Brittany Ann Ragsdale of PelahatchieMississippi.  He is also survived by one sister, Sandra Kay Ray of Marietta,Georgia; and four brothers:  Timothy Howe Palmer and wife, Tina Jane; Paul Davis Palmer; Ronald Javis Palmer and wife, Phyllis, all of LouisvilleMississippi; and Anthony Gilbert Palmer and wife, Lori, ofColumbusMississippi.  Robert has five grandchildren:  Garrett Scott Palmer of St. Johns, Arizona;Baley Claire Irby; Devin Jordan Ragsdale; Kylie Ann Ragsdale; and Adrian Noah Lee Ragsdale all of Pelahatchie, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Noah Palmer, Sr., and Dorothy Willie Palmer. 

His daughter, Sunny Angel Palmer, stayed and cared for him day and night through his last days. She gave her full heart and soul to his beginning journey into Heaven.  His daughter, Brittany Ragsdale, and good friend, Barbara Harris, took care of him throughout his painful cancer treatments from August, 2011, until April, 2012.  We will see you in heaven, daddy.  We all love you.

Peggy Federick Smith

Peggy Federick Smith (November 24, 1950 - June 25, 2012) Funeral services for Peggy Federick Smith of Louisville and Carthage will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 28 from Porter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Haggard officiating. Interment will be in the Renfroe Baptist Church Cemetery in Leake County. Visitation is Wednesday, June 27, from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Peggy, 61, died June 25 at St Dominic Hospital with her family at her side. She was a homemaker and a full-time wife, mother and grandmother. Peggy was the widow of Kenneth Federick of Leake County and was the wife of William Joe Smith of Louisville. Other than Joe, she leaves to mourn her two daughters Penny Federick Watkins, and her husband, Steven, and their children, Casey and Connor; and Donna Federick Martin, and her husband, Rocky, and their children, Cheslyn, Seth and Kensley; three step-sons, Tim, Marty, and Sam Smith and two step-grandchildren, Tyler and Carmen Smith. She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Inez Bozeman; and her grandfather, Sim Alford. Paul Dee Guthrie


Mr. Paul D. Guthrie passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012, in Fort Walton BeachFlorida, at 87 years of age after a hard fought battle with cancer.  He was born on September 10, 1924, to Jim and Minnie Guthrie.  He was a member of Noxapater United Methodist Church.  He began his career with the military during World War II and retired in 1972.  Afterwards, he worked with Department of Defense Contractors in Saudi Arabia and Iran.

He is survived by his wife, Odine; grandson, John and wife, Courtney; great-granddaughters, Ella and Anna; and brothers, James Guthrie and Harvey Guthrie and wife, Shirley; brother-in-law, Jim Curto, as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Randal “Randy” Guthrie; his parents; his brother, Roger Rhubel Guthrie; sisters-in-law, Irene Russell Curto and Etta Lee Guthrie; his grandmother, Gertrude Wright and special aunt, Gertie Peden.

A time of visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in LouisvilleMississippi, with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Reed and Rev. Mr. Walter “Big Brent” Eaves, 33, died Sunday, June 24, 2012, in Winston County, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 27th, at Old Mars Hill Pentecostal Church. Interment will be in Old Mars Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, at Porter Funeral Home.
Mr. Eaves was born October 29, 1978, in Louisville, MS. He was an employee of Gookin Quick Lube, and was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Zackary Eaves and Brock Eaves, both of Philadelphia, MS; his parents, Walter and Betty Manning Eaves of Philadelphia, MS; and two brothers, Wendell Eaves and Phillip Eaves, both of Gautier, MS.

Larry G. Hemphill

Mr. Larry Gale Hemphill, 59, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in ColumbusMississippi.  Visitation will be  Sunday, June 24, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in LouisvilleMississippi.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2012, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mr. Hemphill was born on September 13, 1952.  He was a retired Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard, a member of Poplar Flat Baptist Church, and a Mason.

Mr. Hemphill is survived by his wife of 38 years, Beverly Jo Bennett Hemphill of Louisville,Mississippi.  He is also survived by three daughters,  Deidere Lea McDill of McComb, Mississippi; Jennifer Rebekah Kirk and husband, Jeremy, of Prattville, Alabama; and Kimberly Gail McDill and husband, Trey, of Louisville, Mississippi; and one son, Kevin Hemphill.  Larry has nine grandchildren: Caleb Hunt, Drew McDill, Austin Catt, Erin Kirk, Tristen McDill, Zachary McDill, Kelsey Kirk, Graison McDill, and Hayden McDill.  Mr. Hemphill was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Eva Dell Sullivan Hemphill; his brother, Jerry Hemphill; and four sisters.

Mr. Myron Holmes McBrayer, 79, died Friday, June 15, 2012 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 19th, at 11:00 A.M. at Porter Funeral Home. Mr. McBrayer was born December 24, 1932, in Winston County, MS. He was a graduate of Calhoun High School, and attended East Central Community College. He was a retired machinist with Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, and was an Army veteran of Korea. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy McBrayer; and his parents, Etoile and Thomas McBrayer. 

He is survived by his daughter, Myra Ann Lewis of Ridgeland, MS; a grandson, Adam Lewis of Ridgeland; and three sisters-in-law, Lucille Kirkpatrick of Noxapater, Ann Fulton of Brandon, MS, and Edna Kirkpatrick of New Orleans, LA.

Billy Clark Watson

Mr. Watson was born on September 26, 1940.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 30 years; currently, he was serving as chairman.  After 48 years of loyal service, he retired from Taylor Machine Works.  Mr. Watson also retired after serving 38 years in the National Guard; he was a Mason, and a Shriner.

Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Watson of LouisvilleMississippi.  He is also survived by two daughters, Leigh Anne Henry and husband, Tim, of BrandonMississippi; and Christy Wright and husband, Jason, of BaileyMississippi.  Mr. Watson has one granddaughter, McKensi Grace Wright.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Clark and Alma Barfield Watson; two sisters, Mary Ellen Johnson and Anna Jo Wilkes; and his brother, Oliver Glenn Watson.

Mrs. Anita Pat Smith, 71, died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Mrs. Smith was born August 30th, 1940, in Marietta, OK. She worked in retail sales in Louisville at WalMart, and Bulldog Cleaners, and also worked at the Winston County Library. She was a member of Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Dewitt Smith of Louisville; three daughters, Charlotte (J.L.) Hamrick of New Orleans, LA, Vicki (Michael) Chambliss, and Mandy (Ken) Mills, both of Louisville; two sisters, Helen Allison of Roswell, NM, and Linda Stone of Dallas, TX; one brother, Alf Walker of Dallas, TX; and five grandchildren, Justin (Jaimee) Childs, Madison Mills, Jordan Chambliss, Raegan Chambliss, and Collin Mills.

Peggy Bouchillon Stubbs


Mrs. Peggy Bouchillon Stubbs went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2012. Born July 27, 1936, in Winston County, MS, to Sara and Cecil Bouchillon, she is survived by her husband, Bobby E. Stubbs of Louisville; two daughters, Shari Hoopes (Gary) of The Woodlands, TX, and Sara Townsend (Brady) of Maui, Hawaii, and one granddaughter, Charner Ann Hoopes of The Woodlands, TX; a sister, Sara Roberts (Roy) of Louisville, MS; and a brother, Cecil Bouchillon (Dora) of Oxford, MI; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Growing up, her parents lived in Louisville, Memphis,TN, Cleveland, OH, and the Detroit, MI area. She graduated from high school from Hamtramck, MI High School in 1954. Peggy met her husband in May 1959, and they were married in October, 1959, in Louisville, where they lived until Bobby accepted employment with Shell Oil Company in New Orleans. During his employment with Shell, they lived in New Orleans (where their two daughters were born), in Tulsa, OK, and Kingwood, TX. During his employment with Shell, Peggy was a stay home mother and wife. Upon his retirement in April 1997, they returned to Louisville. Peggy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed doing things with her family and friends. She was active member of Poplar Flat Baptist Church and was very involved in the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 16, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Gayle Pope and Rev. Jonathan Peeples officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Porter Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Roberts, Steve Roberts, Don Goodwin, Gene Estes, and Dan Stubbs.

Mr. Hudspeth was born on September 1, 1935. He was retired from Southern Natural Gas as an Operator.

Mr. Hudspeth is survived by his wife of 52 years, Minnie Hudspeth of LouisvilleMississippi; and his son, Richard Hudspeth and wife, Jennifer, of MadisonMississippi.  Doc is also survived by four grandchildren: Will, Ethan, Sara, and Bonnie Hudspeth; and one great-grandchild, Anna Lee Street.  Mr. Hudspeth was preceded in death by his parents, Olen “Skeet” and Bessie Black Hudspeth; his daughter, Terri Hudspeth; and his brother, Bobby Hudspeth.

Robert Lee (Bob) Sloan

Mr. Robert Lee (Bob) Sloan, 91, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Saturday, June 9, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will also be from 2 p.m.until service time on Sunday at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Clark officiating. Interment will be in the Beth-Eden Church Cemetery in Winston County. Nowell-Massey Funeral Home of Louisville is in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Sloan was born on June 10, 1920, in Noxubee County, Mississippi. He was retired with over forty years of service with BellSouth Telephone Company. He served in the Naval 24th Construction Battalion in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a 32nd degree, Scottish Rites Mason, Past Master of Beth-Eden Masonic Lodge #205, Shriner, Past Patron of Louisville Chapter #60 O.E.S., VFW, and Telephone Pioneers. He was a member of Beth-Eden Lutheran Church, a wonderful neighbour and friend of the community. He was an active member of Island X-24 Sea Bee Veterans of America, having just returned from their annual gathering in April. He was a graduate of Louisville High School.
Mr. Sloan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Edwards Sloan; his daughter, Helen Kaye Gilmore, and three sons, Robert "Bob" Sloan and wife, Sandra; Ricky B. (Bray) Sloan; and Jimmy Ray Sloan and wife, Denise. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Stephanie Laura, Chris, Glenn, Anne, James, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Katherine; and four great-grandchildren: James, Jacob, Erin, Robyn. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Myra Edwards and Eloise Sloan and by a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Sloan was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. "Buddy" and Georgia Beatrice Prisock Sloan; five brothers: Marcus, M. K. (Jack), Sam, Charles, and Herman Sloan; also one sister, Burnice Sloan Whatley and one sister-in-law, Rachel Sloan and two brothers-in-law: W.T. Whatley and Charles Edwards.
Pallbearers will be Chris Gilmore, Blake Edwards, Daniel Edwards, Steve Wright, Brett Ziegler, and Sam Presley. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of Beth-Eden Church and the Masons of Beth-Eden Lodge #205. Mrs. Burnadeen Duran, 82, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 6, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will also be from 12 p.m. until service time at North Bend Pentecostal Church in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Mrs. Duran was born March 15, 1930. She was a homemaker and a member of North Bend Pentecostal Church of Philadelphia.
Mrs. Duran is survived by her husband of 66 years, Marvin A. Duran; and two daughters, Kay Stringfellow and Evelyn White and husband, Jule, all of Louisville. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Jonathan Stringfellow and wife, Donya; Brittany Lishia and husband, Joseph; Lori Young; and Leah Wylie and husband, Jason. Mrs. Duran also has five great-grandchildren: Madalyn Young, Logan Young, BreAna Stringfellow, Haden Wylie, and Jaleigh Wylie. She has two step-grandchildren: Michael White and Bradley White; and two step-great-grandchildren: Christian White and Hailey White.
Mrs. Duran was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Lula Ophelia Pope Burks and son-in-law, Rev. Earl Stringfellow.

Mrs. Shumaker was born June 11, 1964. She was a homemaker and a member of South Louisville Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shumaker is survived by her husband, Paul Shumaker, of Lucedale, Mississippi; her mother, Faye Easterwood Sanders, also of Lucedale, Mississippi; and her father, Leffy Evan Wilkes of Gautier, Mississippi. She is also survived by her daughter, Meagan Gressett and her son, Stephen Heath Gressett both of Pascagoula, Mississippi. Mrs. Shumaker is survived by four sisters: Andrea Wilkes; Melissa Wilkes, Kayman Wilkes, and Annette Wilkes; as well as three brothers: Wayne Moore, Jr.; Leffy Wilkes, and John Wilkes. She has three granddaughters: Brileigh Garner, Alaysia Gressett, and Abella Savior; and one grandson, Joshua Garner. She also has two cousins, Tony and Delinda Hayes and Tonya Frye, and 23 other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Shumaker was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Garner; her grandparents, L. Z. and Bobbie Nell Marsh Easterwood; her aunt, Linda Buchanan; and her cousin, Rene Thrasher.
