Gladys Drewery, age 89, passed away surrounded by her loving family Friday, January 17, 2020, at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, January 24, from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Horton officiating. Graveside services and interment will immediately follow the service in Good Hope Cemetery.
Gladys was born June 12, 1930, to Walter and LaVada Dempsey in Louisville, Mississippi. She enjoyed reading and loved spending time with her family.
Gladys is survived by her children: Paul Drewery of Louisville; Ann Thompson of Olive Branch; David Drewery also of Olive Branch; and Judy Monroe of Memphis, Tennessee. One of her greatest joys was being “Mawmaw” to her 17 grandchildren: Crystal Marie Drewery, Walter Earl Drewery, James Lee Drewery, James Michael Drewery, James Paul Drewery, Jr., Pamela Drewery, Russell Lynn Thompson, Richard Thompson, James Aranda, Janet Drewery, Sandy Drewery, Karen Drewery, Stacey Drewery, Teresa Monroe, Curtis Monroe, Shannon Monroe, and Crystal Monroe; as well as her 33 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Christine McClelland of Starkville, Mississippi; and her brother Jerry Lee “Chicken” Dempsey and wife Pat of Louisville; in addition to her nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Roy Price Drewery; three sons: Walter Earl Drewery, Mike Drewery, and Chester Drewery; four grandchildren: Anthony Leo Drewery, Jennifer Nicole Drewery, Randy Allen, and Richard Lee; her parents; her brother Sonny Dempsey; and her sister Lucille Buford.
Serving as pallbearers are Matt Boykin, Steve Boykin, and Jerry Booth.
