Udell Ward, age 88, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at the Martha Jo Leslie State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Visitation will be Monday, October 1, at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 2 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Angela Gaye Scarboro

Angela Gaye Scarboro, 53 of Millport, AL passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at her residence.

No services are planned at this time.

Mrs. Scarboro was born September 12, 1965 to the late Lurron Marion and Helen Joyce Varnell Miles in Louisville, MS. She was a sales assoicate at Walmart for 16 years. Mrs. Scarboro was always smiling and had a joke to tell. She loved the Lord most of all. Mrs. Scarboro was preceded in death by her husband - Larry Elgin Scarboro; mother - Helen Joyce Varnell Miles; father - Lurron Marion Miles; sister - Gloria Miles.

Mrs. Scarboro is survived by her sisters - Rita (David) Sullivan and Glenda Wooten; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bonette (Bonnie) Reed, age 80, passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends on Friday, September 28, 2018, at her home in Noxapater, Mississippi. Marie Thrash Davis

Marie Thrash Davis, age 93, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Johnny Collins officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Marie was born October 31, 1924, to Yancey and Mary Holiday Thrash. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She graduated from Conehatta High School as well as East Central Community College and The University of Southern Mississippi. She retired from The Winston County School System after teaching third grade for forty five years.

Marie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Orris Davis of Louisville; her nephews, Jim Thrash and wife, Sharon and Terry Thrash and wife, Carla; as well as her great nieces and nephews, Mary Short, Emily Thrash, and Jay Thrash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, J. W. Thrash; and her sister-in-law, Jean Thrash.

Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Boswell, Ezell Carter, Bobby Joe Edwards, James E. Lee, James Metts, Jack Mitchell, Ronny Mitchell, and Wayne Perkins.

Mr. Richard Justin Dickerson III, 33, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018, in Jackson, MS. Justin was born June 20, 1985, in Jackson, MS. He was a resident of Brandon, MS, and an automobile salesman. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bobbie Miller.

He is survived by his daughter, Madelyn Grace Dickerson of Minnesota; his mother, Tina Miller of Orlando, FL; his father, Richard J. Dickerson, Jr. of Noxapater; his grandparents, Paul and Buntin Miller, and Richard and Ora Lee Dickerson, all of Louisville; and two half-brothers, Bennet Womble and Jacob Freedman, both of Orlando, FL.

Mrs. Misty Todd Lindsey, 37, died Sunday, September 16, 2018, at her residence.

She was a native of the Plattsburg Community of Winston County and a resident of Attala County for the past 13 years. She was the owner and operator of Misty’s Boutique Beauty Shop for several years. For the last few years she had dedicated her life to her family and church. Mrs. Lindsey is a member of Covenant Baptist Church in French Camp.

Survivors include husband, Mark Lindsey of Kosciusko; daughters, Kristen and Kayleigh Lindsey of Kosciusko; son, Jonallen Lindsey of Kosciusko; stepson, Jon Lindsey of Searcy, AR; parents, Dennis and Kathy Todd of Noxapater; brothers, Dewayne Todd (Denise) of Decatur and Johanthan Todd (Courtney) of Noxapater; sister, Patty Savell of Philadelphia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Betty Ruth Sammons Tennyson

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Ruth Sammons Tennyson, 87, will be held at Coleman Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Danny Irvin officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m until service time at Coleman Funeral Home, Ackerman, MS.  The burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Gardens, Tupelo, Mississippi.

A native of Collierville, Tennessee, Mrs. Tennyson was a retired school teacher. She taught in Ackerman and in Tupelo. Mrs. Tennyson was a member of Ackerman Baptist Church. Mrs. Tennyson died on September 15, 2018, at her residence.

Surviors include her children: Forrest Caldwell Sammons, Sr., Christopher Daniel Sammons, Jr., Ruth Ann Sammons White, Mary Elizabeth Sammons Maxey, Jeanie Arlene Tennyson Bass, and Janie Doylene Tennyson Cupit; 14 grandchildren; and, 20 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts may be made to French Camp Academy or Ackerman Baptist Church.

Dorothy Faye Coleman

Dorothy Faye Coleman of Weir, Mississippi died on September 14, 2018. Mrs. Coleman lived her entire life as a dedicated resident of Weir, Mississippi. She graduated from Weir High School in 1946. She was a long-time member of the Weir Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Coleman was employed by the United State Postal Service serving the residents of Choctaw County for 38 ½ years. She proudly served as the Postmaster in Weir the last twelve years of her distinguished career.

Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie B Coleman; daughters, Donna Kay Gant and Suzanne Coleman; daughter-in-law, Susie B. Coleman; parents, John W. Johnson and Stella Miles Johnson; and brother, John Johnson. She is survived by her only son, Johnny (Chris) Coleman; son-in-law, Joe Lynn Gant, II; four grandchildren, Joe Lynn Gant, III (Heather), Courtney Coleman Beard (Jonathan), Christina Coleman Reynolds (Zach), and Catherine Coleman; and three great-grandchildren, Julie Suzanne "Julie Anne" Beard, Jordan Sage Beard, and Joe Lynn Gant, IV. Mrs. Coleman is also survived by her constant canine companion, Reecie.

Services will be held at Weir Presbyterian Church on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. with a graveside service to follow at Weir Cemetery.

Billy Crowell

Mr. Billy Jones Crowell, 76, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Pine Cottage at the Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 11th, at Murphy Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Mark Mayo and Rev. Grady Crowell officiating. Interment will be in Murphy Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Murphy Creek Baptist Church. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crowell was born November 11, 1941, in Louisville, MS. He retired after 33 years as a postal carrier. He was a pillar of Murphy Creek Baptist Church, having served as deacon, Sunday School teacher for over 40 years, Training Union teacher, and head of many other committees in the church over the years. Billy was Secretary Treasurer of Bond Water Association for 43 years, and was an avid Ole Miss fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtis Arlee Jones and James Frank Crowell; and his sister, Louise Cravens.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Stevenson Crowell; his daughter, Kim (Neal) Higgason; his brother, Johnny (Claire) Crowell; two grandchildren, Bethany Higgason and Kara Higgason, all of Louisville; and special in-laws, Shirley and Billy Strait, and Willie Earl and Dorothy Stevenson.

Pallbearers will be Ben Jackson, Justin Strait, Rusty Foster, Gary Boatner, Junior Stewart, and Freddy Fulcher.

Sara Ford Ward

Sara Ford Ward, age 92, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Sunday, September 9, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Childs and Rev. Newlie Long officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Sara was born May 16, 1926, in Hinds County to H. D. and Gertrude Bedwell Ford. She was a 75-year member of First Baptist Church of Louisville where she was involved in various activities including WMU and serving as a Sunday school teacher.
For 27 years, Sara worked for the Lewis Grocery Company serving as manager of the local Sunflower store until it was sold. After retiring from Lewis Grocery, she became a tour guide with First America and was able to visit every state except Alaska. Sara served in many offices, including president, during her 62-year membership in the Pilot Club of Louisville. Her stories of past International Conventions always entertained members of the Pilot Club.
An avid quilter, she was a member of the Louisville Quilting Guild. Sara lovingly, carefully, and patiently made many beautiful quilts over the years. She loved planting, watering, and caring for her flowers in her backyard.
Sara is survived by her son Troy Ward and wife, Wanda, of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Sa Mom” to her two grandchildren: Haley Ward and wife, Daphne, also of Louisville; and Leslie Hill and husband, Ricky, of Purvis, Mississippi. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Connor Hill (Karly); Cole Hill; Laura Katherine Ward; and Jason Hill (Tiffany); as well as four great-great-grandchildren: Weston Hill; Vivi Rose Hill; JMac Hill; and Emery Hill.
Sara is survived by her niece, Nancy Sherrard; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Ward; her parents; her brother, H. D. Ford, Jr.; and three sisters, Gladys Deakle; LaNelle Sherrard; and Libby Peden.
Serving as pallbearers are Haley Ward, Ricky Hill, Connor Hill, Cole Hill, Jason Hill, Rooster Ball, and Barry McWhirter. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Pilot Club of Louisville. Memorials in honor of Sara may be given to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 547, Louisville, MS 39339.

Virginia Jean Gentry

Mrs. Virginia Jean Gentry, 92, passed away on September 8, 2018, at Pine Cottage at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Mrs. Gentry was born July 13, 1926, in Louisville, MS. She and her husband owned and operated Gentry’s Big Star Grocery for many years in Louisville. She was a member of South Louisville Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Gentry; three sons, Terry Gentry, Larry Gentry, and Tim Gentry; a sister, Ethel Joyce Sennett; two brothers, Jerry Eaves and Dewey Eaves; and her parents, Clarice and Dewey Eaves.

She is survived by two sons, Wallace D. “Bubba” Gentry, and James Douglas “Doug” Gentry & Lenita; sisters, Peggy Patterson of Macon, and Joan Parrish of Lavonia, MI; a brother, Johnny Eaves of Louisville; 9 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Gentry, Ty Gentry, John Malcolm Gentry, Quinn Hodge, Gentry Hodge, and Dr. Dustin Gentry.

Kaye Roberts Frensley

Mrs. Virginia Kaye Roberts Frensley, 75, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018, at Baptist Memorial-Golden Triangle Hospital in Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 9th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Wissel officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Frensley was born July 20, 1943, in Hattiesburg, MS. Kaye graduated from Louisville High School and received her BS and MA degrees from MSCW in speech pathology. She taught in Meridian, Decatur, AL, Nashville, TN, and in the Winston County MS school system. She owned Early Days Antiques in Louisville and worked as an antique appraiser for several years. Kay enjoyed serving in civic clubs and activities. She was a member of the Pilot Club and DAR. She modeled and was a strong advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Frensley Sr., and her parents, Mae Kinard and Byran Roberts.

Survivors include Betty Kinard Mosley of Jackson, AL and Don Kinard of Louisville, and very many friends.

Pallbearers will be Ben Kirk, Kiley Kirk, Cliff Hudson, Jay Stokes, Rodney Stokes, Eric Bright, and Justice Bright.

Mrs. Ossie Hayes Long, 88, passed away on Thursday, September 06, 2018, at her home in Louisville. 

Mrs. Long was born December 28, 1929, in Louisville, MS. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Paul “Peter” Long; two daughters, Judy Marie Williamson and Rebecca Joy Grayson; a grandson, Michael Edwards; her parents, Eva and James Vernon Yarbrough; and two brothers, Rev. James Yarbrough and Richard Yarbrough.

She is survived by her sisters, Ann Ward, Pearl Daniels, Algie McCullough, Clara Mae Hemphill, and Yvonne Clark; her brothers, Harold Yarbrough, Thaddis Yarbrough, Freddie Yarbrough, John Yarbrough, and Dwayne Ray; four grandchildren, Shawn Edwards, Josh Edwards, Ben Matthews, and Megan Hartness; and her great grandchildren, Layla & Wesley Matthews, Ethan Edwards, Paige Edwards, Christopher Edwards, and Walker and Wilder Hartness.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

David Coleman

David Michael Coleman, age 59, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2018, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, Mississippi, with Rev. Tim Hisaw and Rev. James Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

David was born December 12, 1958, to William and Bonnie Hisaw Coleman. He grew up in Louisville and was known to all his friends in Louisville as “Gopher”. He lived most of his life in Columbus, Mississippi, where he attended Vibrant Church and was the Maintenance Supplies Buyer at Omnova Solutions. David never met a stranger. He had a fun-loving spirit and a caring, compassionate heart. He loved his family, his many friends, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and his Savior Jesus Christ.

David is survived by two sons, Tifton Coleman and Michael Coleman, both of Trinity Florida; his mother, Bonnie Hisaw Coleman, of Louisville; his brother, Billy Coleman and wife, Cathy, of Columbus; his niece, Anna Claire Coleman; and his nephew, Tyler Coleman. He was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Coleman.

Memorials in honor of David may be given to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 547, Louisville, MS 39339.

Virginia June Goodwin

Mrs. Virginia June Goodwin, 79, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at her home in Madison, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 8th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. D Martin officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Concord Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Goodwin was born January 21, 1939 in Ackerman, MS. She was a homemaker and retired from working in a nursing home. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Goodwin; and her parents, Lois and Wilbur F. Carr.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise (Marty) Thibodeaux of Sturgeon Bay, WI; a son, Dale (Sally) Goodwin of Madison, MS; a sister, Ann Martin of Harrison, AR; a brother, Bill Carr of Ackerman, MS; grandchildren, Brandy (Jacob) Green, Samantha Goodwin, Justin Goodwin, Chris Thibodeaux , and Nickolas (Anna) Thibodeaux, and one great grandchild, Peyton Green.

Mary Ann Melancon

Mary Ann Melancon, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Louisville Healthcare Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Memorial services will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jay Murphy officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. 

Mary Ann was born October 22, 1943, in Big Springs, Texas, to David O. and Lillie Bond Reeves. She attended chapel services at Louisville Healthcare. She was retired as an Executive Secretary and enjoyed yard work and always had different projects she was working on in her home. She loved being “Mary Ann” to her grandchildren.

Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Hebert; her grandchildren: Tatum Melancon, David Hebert, Luke Hebert, and Daniel Hebert; and her great-grandchildren, Lucien Melancon and Azlynn Reid. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing, her sister, Vickey Dooley, of Houston, Texas; and her brother, Larry Reeves, of Conroe, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerard Melancon; her parents; and her brother, David Michael Reeves.

Memorials in honor of Mary Ann may be given to St. Jude, Breast Cancer Awareness, or to the Veterans Association.

Robert E. Windham

Mr. Robert Windham, 73, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018, at his home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, September 7th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Jay Murphy officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Salem Baptist Cemetery near Lake, MS. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Windham was born June 28, 1945, in Texas. He worked in maintenance most of his life, most recently at Diamond Grove in Louisville. He and his wife moved from Scott County to Louisville in 2002. He attended Shiloh Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dovie Mae and Earl Lee Windham.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Monk Windham of Louisville; daughters, Tina Thigpen and Wendy Victory, both of Louisiana; a step-daughter, Tonya Mayo of Louisville; a son, Jody Wilson of Texas; a sister, Betty Miller of Texas; eleven grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Dalton Mayo, Will Bane, Floyd Monk, Joey Monk, Zack Thigpen, and Richard Miller.

Charles Barrett "Barry" Stokes

Mr. Charles Barrett “Barry” Stokes, 58, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 6th, at 11:00 A.M. at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Gerald Butler officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Barry was born December 19, 1959, in Jackson, MS. He was a graduate of Noxapater High School, and was a jack of all trades, having worked as a welder, logger, and farmer. He also worked as a millwright from Georgia Pacific. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Young Stokes.

He is survived by a daughter, Tonya (Drew) Snow, a son, Brad (Summer) Stokes, both of Louisville; his parents, Cathryn and Billy Charles Stokes of Noxapater; a sister, Michelle (Terry) Bellew of Ackerman; two brothers, Antoine (Mary Ann) Stokes, and Scott (Christie) Stokes, both of Louisville; two grandchildren, Braxton Stokes and Allix Villalpando; and a great grandchild, Riley Hope Villalpando.

Memorials may be made to Ride for Carmen, or Palmer Home for Children.





Camille Holman Fulton

Mrs. Camille Holman Fulton, 94, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at her home in Louisville. 

Camille was born June 25, 1924, in Noxapater, MS. She was a graduate of Louisville High School, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Blue Mountain College. She taught junior high school for many years, and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was the last surviving founder of the Nanih Waiya chapter of the DAR. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josie Worthy and William Bruce Holman, Sr; and her brother, William Bruce Holman, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Maryjo Pride of Madison, MS; a son, Glen Jeff Fulton, Jr. of Louisville; and two grandchildren, Claire Pride and Aimee Pride.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
