Doris B. “Dodie” Thompson

Doris B. “Dodie” Thompson, 90, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody in Dunwoody, Georgia. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Trey Woodruff officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at 10 a.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi.

Mrs. Thompson was born April 4, 1925, to Michael and Edna Warren Jones. She retired after 45 years of service as a Purchasing Agent for Delta Airlines in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the first woman to hold a top administrative position with Delta Airlines. She was driven by determination and commitment in her loyalty to her company.

Dodie enjoyed cooking and trying out new recipes with her husband, Charles, whom she lovingly called “Charlie”. She and Charlie enjoyed entertaining their closest friends with weekend brunches and dinners. They never missed a holiday gathering with their friends and families. She was an avid golfer when few women played golf. Dodie enjoyed golfing on the Delta Airline’s golf teams and played in many tournaments. She enjoyed classical music and reading especially in her retirement years. She and Charlie traveled and vacationed with their close friends annually throughout the United States. She adored her nieces and nephews and if they were her very own children. She was interested in every aspect of their lives. She wanted to know all about each one of them and their families. She always corresponded with each of them while never forgetting a special occasion in their lives. Her nieces and nephews always referred to her as their “spunky” Aunt Dodie. She modeled a positive attitude about life to all who knew her. She was truly loved in the hearts of her family and friends. She was also an enthusiast at bowling. She competed in countless bowling tournaments with Delta Airline employees. She was great at bowling and did not mind letting you know her prowess at the sport!

Dodie is survived by two nieces, Alice Aldridge and husband, Don, of Germantown, Tennessee; and Susan Saik and husband, Corky, of Pensacola, Florida; and three nephews, Donnie Woodruff and wife, DeLaine of Louisville; Byron Thompson and wife, Melanie, of Dallas, Texas; and David Thompson of Clinton, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Thompson; her parents, and her brother, Walter Jones and wife Jeanette.

Serving as pallbearers will be Stan Goodin, Corky Saik, David Thompson, Jason Thompson, Donnie Woodruff and Trey Woodruff.
