Sylvia Campbell
Mrs. Sylvia Campbell, 76, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010, Meridian, Mississippi, at a Local Hospital.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 28, 2010, at 1 p.m., from the Hopewell United Methodist Church, Philadelphia, Mississippi.
Survivors include three daughters, Vickie McCallum opf Tuyler, TX, Pamela Jones of Henderson, TX and Crystal Miller(Keith)of Dallas, TX, one sister, Juanita S. Hickman of Philadelphia, MS., three grandchildren, Jayson Croon, Heather Cross (Trenell) and Karen Redmond(Morice); three great grandchildren, Jaxston, Haleigh and Ja'Bria, a special godchild, Shawntell Triplett and a host of nieces, Nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Margaret C. Rogers
Mrs. Margaret Carr Rogers, 80, was born on February 4, 1930 and went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. She passed away at her residence at the Bee Hive Homes of Louisville, MS.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Frank L. Rogers. She is survived by two daughters, Paula Rogers of Louisville, MS and Bridget Walker and special son-in-law Tim Walker of Brandon, MS; and two beautiful granddaughters, Megan Margaret Walker and Katelin Leigh Walker of Brandon, MS; two sisters, Mildred McLeod of Louisville, MS and Maxine Hurt of Hattiesburg, MS.
Visitation is Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Grady Crowell and Bro. Chris Vowell officiating. Burial will follow in the Murphy Creek Cemetery in Louisville, MS.

Lavelle Sherrod, 56, of Louisville, Mississippi, entered into eternal peace and rest Thursday, June 24, 2010 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was born December 31, 1953 to the late Ellis and Earlean Sherrod.

Mr. Marvin Roach on June 24, 2010 was called home while doing what he loved the most, fishing in his own manmade pond that he dug himself. On February 22, 1939, Marvin became the third child to Eddie and Gertrude Roach in Louisville, Mississippi.

Mrs. Clarice King Cole, 99, of Macon MS, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Her funeral services will be held at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 A.M. Saturday.

Rachel Claudine Stevens
Mrs. Rachel Claudine Stevens, 91, died peacefully after a lengthy illness at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, MS, on Saturday, June 28th, surrounded by her devoted children and a loving niece. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday at Noxapater Baptist Church, with interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 Pm until service time at the church in Noxapater. Porter Funeral Home of Louisville is in charge of arrangements. At the age of 9, Mrs. Steven’s family moved from Philadelphia to Noxapater. She graduated from Noxapater High School and from a business college in Tupelo. She worked as a dental receptionist for Dr. C. G. Blue in Louisville before her marriage in August 1940 to Thomas F. Stevens. During World War II, T. F. was stationed in Colorado and Florida and Claudine spent that time with him before he was transferred to Germany. She worked for 30 years for the Bank of Noxapater. After her husband’s death in 1985, she lived with her daughter in Greenwood. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James Kimbol McCown of Amory. She is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Paul) Crow of Greenwood, MS, and Rachel (Lamar) Crocker of Tupelo, MS; a son, Steve (Arlena) Stevens of Amory, MS; two sisters, Juanita Hight of Louisville, and Bobby Jean Wall of Belmont, MS; five grandchildren, LuAnn (Brian) Green, Penny (Bill) Stalcup, Paige (Brad) Lawrence, Steven Crocker, and Jefferson (Carie) Crow; five great grandchildren, James Hunter Stalcup, McCown Stalcup, Ben Lawrence, Hudson Lawrence, and Ryleigh Green; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village, Noxapater Baptist Church, or Mt. Carmel Cemetery Fund.

Mr. Otha Hartness Jr.
Mr. Otha Hartness, Jr., 64, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, in Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville. Visitation will be Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Burlon Commer and Rev. Michael Halfacre officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Hartness was born September 21, 1945 to Otha R. and Effie Mae Nation Hartness. He was a retired truck driver for Taylor Machine Works and he attended First Apostolic Church of Louisville.
Mr. Hartness is survived by his wife, Reta Dickerson Hartness of Louisville; one daughter, Angela Hartness of Noxapater; two sons, Shannon Hartness, of Noxapater and Shayne Hartness of Meridian; two sisters, Ella Mae Shepperd of Paducah, Kentucky and Elizabeth Reaves of Noxapater; two grandchildren, Chase Jones of Decatur and Dalton Hartness of Louisville. Bessie Woodward Jackson
Bessie Woodward Jackson, 94, of Macon, MS died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Oakwood Manor in Brooksville, MS. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at X-Prairie United Methodist Church near Macon, MS. Interment followed the funeral at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to X-Prairie United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Miss Jackson was born on May 5, 1916 in Yazoo County, MS, and was the daughter of the late Carl Y. and Myrtle Pepper Jackson. She was educated in Noxubee and Kemper County schools. She was a graduate of East Mississippi Junior College in Scooba, MS and received a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Mississippi. She taught school for eight years. She worked for the U.S. government for three years during World War II and later worked for the Mississippi State Employment Service for 32 years until her retirement. She was a longtime member of the X-Prairie United Methodist Church near Macon, MS. She was a member of the Dancing Rabbit Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Miss Jackson is survived by two nieces, Hazel B. Newman of Jackson, GA and Mary B. (Richard) Brown of Naples, FL. Also surviving are three cousins, Warren Earl (Edith) Hummer of Louisville, MS and Marion Hummer and Ruby Hummer, both of Macon, MS.

Henry Lamar Clark
Mr. Henry Lamar Clark, 94, died Tuesday, June 22nd, at Winston Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 28th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Scott Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Clark was born November 26, 1915, in Louisville, MS, the son of Velma Hathorn and Grady Clark. He was retired from the U. S. Soil Conservation Service. He was a member of the ROTC at Mississippi State University, where he graduated in 1938 with a B.S. degree in Agronomy. He joined the Army Reserves, and was called to active duty immediately after Pearl Harbor during World War II. He was a Lt. Colonel and had a distinguished military career. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Clark Carroll.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Smyth Clark; a step-son, Steve White of Louisville; step-daughters, Susanne Galtney and Lisa Dawn Burgan, both of Houston, TX; 9 step-grandchildren; a nephew, Henry Holmes (Hank)Carroll of Miami, FL; and a niece, Dana Jo Carroll of Scotia, NY. Susan Gregory Dillard
Mrs. Susan Gregory Dillard, 43, died Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at South Louisville Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at South Louisville Baptist Church, with Rev. Trent Jaudon, Rev. Rob Faulk, Rev. David Keene, and Rev. Sammie McMillen officiating. Interment will follow in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
Susan was born August 26, 1966 to Gale and Frances Hill Gregory. She was a graduate of Nanih Waiya Attendance Center, where she taught English and where, as a National Board Certified Teacher, she was selected as the 2010 Teacher of the Year as well as the Star Teacher for 2010. She also served as the Beta Club Sponsor. She received her doctorate degree from Mississippi State University where she previously taught and where she served on the board of the MSU Baptist Student Union. She was an active member of South Louisville Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was involved in the Awana Program. She was also a member of the Gideon’s Auxiliary, Mississippi Professional Educators Association and Winston County Republican Women. She was co-owner of the Fairy Godmother Formal Dress Shop.
Susan is survived by her husband, Mark Dillard; a son, John Atwell Dillard; her parents, Gale and Frances Hill Gregory; a brother, Kevin and Nicole Gregory; her grandmother, Mrs. Laverne Gregory; and three nieces, Logan, Jillian, and Bailey Gregory, all of Louisville. Her father and mother-in-law, Willie and Minnie Dillard; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Rogers; and two nieces, Brandi and Crystal (Jeff) Rogers Davis, all of Shannon, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of South Louisville Baptist Church and the honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Good Hope Baptist Church.

Jean McCraw Porter
Mrs. Jean McCraw Porter, 91, died Saturday June 19, 2010, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday June 21, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Lexington, MS, with Rev. Matthew Rowe and Rev. Robert Weatherington officiating. Interment will be in Oddfellows Cemetery. Mrs. Porter was born May 25, 1919, in Leland, MS, the daughter of Sloane Ryals and John McCraw. She was a graduate of Belhaven College, and taught public school music and private music lessons for many years in Lexington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doty Porter; a sister, Margaret Mitchell, and a brother, John McCraw, Jr.
She is survived by two sons, Al (Rhonda) Porter of Louisville, and John Doty (Gale) Porter of Greenwood; a sister, Mary Elizabeth King of Alamo, TX; five grandchildren, Sally, Mary Claire, & Olivia Porter, Sloane (Josh) Fair, and Doty (Mary Gregory) Porter; and one great grandson, John Benz Porter.

Mr. James Clyde Hamm, 80, died Wednesday, June 16th, 2010, at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 19th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Walter Simmons officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday at Forest Hill East Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Mr. Hamm was born May 25, 1930, in Louisville, MS, the son of Virgie Mae Reed and William Henry Kirk (Bob) Hamm. He retired in 1996 as a supervisor for Quaker Oat Chemical Co. in Memphis, TN, and moved back to Louisville, MS He was an Army veteran and a faithful member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty Johnson Hamm of Louisville; a sister, Diane H. Christiansen of Bartlett, TN; and 10 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Neal, 77, died Monday, June 14th, 2010, at the Bee Hive Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 16th, 2010, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Haggard officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will from 9:30A.M. Wednesday until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Neal was born May 21, 1933, in Louisville, MS. She was retired medical secretary in Jackson for many years, before moving back to Louisville in 1996. She was a member of First Baptist Church, and also attended Campground United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Neal; two sisters, Doris Webb and Lady McMillin; and four brothers, Roy Humphries, Buster Humphries, Edward “Cap” Humphries, and Fred Humphries. She is survived by two brothers, Thad Humphries of West Helena, AR, and Bill Humphries of Brandon, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews. Oak Methodist Church. He was a retired logger.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Stovall of DeKalb; daughters, Tammy Thrash of Scooba and Jennifer Davis of Lynville; son, Joey Stovall of DeKalb; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Sally Smith of Amite, LA and Faye Wright of Louisville; and brothers, Benny Stovall, Homer Stovall, and Prentice Stovall all of Philadelphia.

Dinni Clark, 63, died May 27, 2010, at her residence. Services were Sunday at First Baptist Church in Columbus with Drs. Shawn Parker and Bobby Douglas officiating. Burial followed in Salem Cemetery near Macon. Cockrell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Clark was born Oct. 27, 1946, in Clarksdale to Frank P. Foster and the late Ruth Guinn Foster. She was a graduate of Clarksdale/Coahoma High School in 1964. She graduated from Delta State University in 1968 with a degree in home economics. She taught home economics at Lee Academy in Clarksdale, operated a preschool out of her home and had a catering business. She joined the staff at First Baptist Church in Columbus, where she continued to work until her retirement. She was director of Candy Stripers at Golden Triangle Regional Medical Center in Columbus and a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus. She and her husband were active members of the North MS Emmaus Community.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Nick Clark, of Macon; sons, Jay Clark, of Macon, and Conner Clark, of Cumming, Ga.; brothers, Buddy Foster, of Chicago and Mark and Pal Foster, both of Clarksdale; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 202 Seventh N. Columbus, MS 39701, or Chapel in the Pines at EMCC, Development Foundation, P.O. Box 158, Scooba, MS 39358.
