Bessie Woodward Jackson

Bessie Woodward Jackson, 94, of Macon, MS died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Oakwood Manor in Brooksville, MS. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at X-Prairie United Methodist Church near Macon, MS. Interment followed the funeral at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to X-Prairie United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Miss Jackson was born on May 5, 1916 in Yazoo County, MS, and was the daughter of the late Carl Y. and Myrtle Pepper Jackson. She was educated in Noxubee and Kemper County schools. She was a graduate of East Mississippi Junior College in Scooba, MS and received a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Mississippi. She taught school for eight years. She worked for the U.S. government for three years during World War II and later worked for the Mississippi State Employment Service for 32 years until her retirement. She was a longtime member of the X-Prairie United Methodist Church near Macon, MS. She was a member of the Dancing Rabbit Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Miss Jackson is survived by two nieces, Hazel B. Newman of Jackson, GA and Mary B. (Richard) Brown of Naples, FL. Also surviving are three cousins, Warren Earl (Edith) Hummer of Louisville, MS and Marion Hummer and Ruby Hummer, both of Macon, MS.
