George Hill

George Hill, 86, of Sturgis, Mississippi, passed away on February 19, 2023. George was born one of ten children in Neshoba County to LV and Nellie Chapman Hill on March 2, 1936. He graduated from Arlington High School in Philadelphia, Mississippi and shortly thereafter served in Korea as part of the Army. On June 10, 1960, he married Jennie Gillis in Sturgis, Mississippi. During his professional career he worked as a Prototype Engineer in the furniture industry for over 30 years.

 
Morgan Chapel Baptist Church was his home church, where he faithfully served as Deacon, Chairman of Deacons, Sunday school leader and member of the choir for many years. George had many hobbies including fishing with his children and grandchildren, wood working, gardening, singing gospel music and watching MSU sports. He had a love of nature and was a weather enthusiast. His ever present sense of humor kept family gatherings light hearted and full of laughter. He was happiest when at home with his large family and dog, Lacey.


George is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother (Charles), sister (Pearl), grandson (Cameron), and great-granddaughter (Sarah).
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, brothers, Jerry (Pat) Hill, Wilbur (Sara) Hill, Urshel Hill, Gene (Dana) Hill, Bennie (Debbie) Hill, Dannie (Ann) Hill, Sister, Rachel Jackson, son, Scott (Annice) Hill, daughters, Missy (Stan) Arrington and Ginger (Bo) Keith and grandchildren; Nikki (Michael) Davis, Mandy (Will) Schaub, Thomas (Anna) Arrington, John (Emily) Hill, Will and Ty Keith. Also survived by great grandchildren: Phillip and Ben Davis, Roper Schaub, Luke, Kate and Avery Arrington, Frankie and Stella Hill and many nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be at Morgan Chapel Baptist Church Sturgis, Mississippi on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. with funeral service immediately following at 11:00. Pallbearers will be Thomas Arrington, John Hill, Will Keith, Ty Keith, Michael Davis, Will
Schaub and Bo Keith.
