Robert Denson Wood

Robert Denson Wood, (age 70), of Louisville, MS, passed away on December 11, 2021 of leukemia.

Robert, or Bob as he was known to most, was born in Oxford, MS on May 4, 1951 to Henry Clay Wood and Pauline Denson Wood, as a younger brother to Barbara Jean Wood. He grew up in Louisville, MS and as a child he participated in the Boy Scouts and grew to love the outdoors. As a teen, he sang in the chorus and traveled across the country with the church choir. He graduated from Louisville High School in 1969. He attended Ole Miss University and University of Southern Mississippi, then transferred to Mississippi State where he graduated with a degree in political science. He met his first wife, Miriam Wood, who is a native of Venezuela, while in college, and they married and began a family. They moved to Venezuela for a period of time, where Bob quickly learned Spanish and grew to love the culture, music, and food of the Venezuelan people. They moved back to the United States and settled in the Northern Virginia area where Bob worked in the tv ratings industry and enjoyed discovering life in the outskirts of Washington, D.C.

Bob eventually moved back to Venezuela where he met his second wife, Eugenia Marcano, with whom he shared a son. He taught English as a second language, combining his love of Spanish with his outgoing personality. He spent the last fifteen years of his life back in his hometown of Louisville. Bob was a big sports fan, especially when it came to football, routing for the Bulldogs and the Saints. He had a witty sense of humor and loved to have lively political discussions. Country songs were always at the top of his playlist, though he had a wide range of musical interests, and you could often hear him singing along. His favorite moments were those spent with his children and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister. He was survived by his children Lorry Wood Guy, of Simpsonville, SC, Karen Wood McClaran of Simpsonville, SC, Joseph Henry Wood of Los Angeles, California, Madeline Wood Sherer of Greenville, SC, and Cristian Enrique Wood of Greenville, SC. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He will be greatly missed and is committed to our Father in heaven.
