Mr. William Henry “Billy” Strait, Sr., 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at his home in Louisville. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 11th, at Murphy Creek Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Mayo officiating. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Billy was born May 15, 1935, in Winston County to Carrie and Jim Strait. He was a graduate of Bond High School. He worked with Georgia Pacific, and later was owner and operator of W. H. Strait, Sr. Trucking Company. He was a faithful member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Polly Kennedy; and two brothers, James Strait and Crook Strait.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Stevenson Strait; a daughter, Beth (Bruce) Fulcher; two sons, William (Dottie) Strait, and Arnie (Lisa) Strait, all of Louisville; four grandchildren, Marilyn (Ben) Jackson, Carrie (Derek) Shannon, Justin Strait, and Bruce (Kayla) Fulcher; and three great grandchildren, Cruz Shannon, Harper Shannon, and Taylor Jackson.
Memorials may be made to Murphy Creek Cemetery Fund.
Pallbearers will be Willie Earl Stevenson, Brian Stevenson, Derek Shannon, Neal Higgason, Bruce Fulcher Jr., and Ricky Hartness.
