Phyllis Kay Mayo Black

Phyllis Kay Mayo Black, 73, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Graveside services and interment will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 18 at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Jay Murphy officiating. The family urges everyone to please observe all safety precautions concerning COVID-19.

Kay was born October 28, 1949, to Dee and Mary Jewel Keene Mayo in Winston County, Mississippi. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she enjoyed gathering information for and publishing the church bulletin each week. Kay was also a member of the Shiloh Cemetery Committee. She was very creative using her many sewing and embroidery machines to make everything from jewelry to Christmas stockings.

Kay is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Jimmy A. Black of Louisville. She is also survived by her children Kathy Black Johnsey and husband John of Starkville, Mississippi; and Barry A. Black and Sandra also of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Mammaw” to her two granddaughters Sara Abigail Barnes and fiancĂ© Ford Polk of Starkville; and Ivy Black of Meridian, Mississippi. She is also survived by her siblings: Gary (Rachel) Mayo, Terry (Shirley) Mayo, Marie (Randall) Livingston, Terrell (Glenda) Mayo, Keeny (Becky) Mayo, and Jewel Dean Fondren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents.

Services are under the direction of Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by signing the guest register.
