Shelby Wayne Horton

Shelby Wayne Horton, 79, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, in Forest, Mississippi. Graveside services and interment will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 at Welcome Chapel Jesus Name Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Horton officiating. Due to current events, the family requests that visitors follow all precautions that are in place by Executive Order 1466 of Gov. Tate Reeves.

Shelby was born to Carl and Lena Mae Horton on October 17, 1940. He retired after working 30 years in the Maintenance Department at Tyson Foods in Forest. Shelby enjoyed being outside and loved to fish.

Shelby is survived by his wife Gail Phelps Horton of Louisville; his step-daughter Julie Rowell-Barber and husband Jonathan of Forest, Mississippi; and two step-sons Glen Rowell of Franklinton, Louisiana, and Cody Espinoza of Sebastopol, Mississippi. One of his greatest joys was his eight grandchildren: Sam (Ashley) Dempsey, Brody Dempsey, Jalyn Rowell (Boat Man), Lexi Rowell, LaLa Rowell, Karalynn Rowell, Wyatt Rowell, and Annalise Rowell; as well as his two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two sisters Lila Jean Yates and Charlene (Bill) Webb all of Louisville and a host of nieces and nephews. Shelby was preceded in death by his parents.

Serving as pallbearers are Jonathan Barber and Cody Espinoza.
