Orris E. Davis, age 93, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday,
June 13, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Johnny Collins officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.Orris was born January 15, 1926, to Junie and Inez Mitchell Davis. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. After 43 years, Orris retired as the service manager for Ford Motor Company. He enjoyed gardening, kept an immaculate yard, and was a very good cook. He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Army during World War II.
Orris is survived by his nephews, Jim Thrash of Collierville, Tennessee; and Terry Thrash of Pensacola, Florida; and his great-niece Emily Aull of Gainesville, Florida. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Lois Jean Davis of Pensacola; and several cousins still living in the Louisville area as well as close neighbors and his beloved church family. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie Thrash Davis; his parents; his brother Mitchell Davis; his sister Wydell Childs; and his nephew Butch Whitt.
Serving as pallbearers are Jack Mitchell, Ronny Mitchell, Jimmy Boswell, Bobby Joe Edwards, James E. Lee, and Mike Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers are James “Deedye” Metts, Pete Blaine, Ronnie Slawson, David Ray, Wayne Perkins, Guy Young, Ezell Carter, Paul Miller, Rick Walker, and David Mitchell.
