Mrs. Sloan, age 83, of the Whitehall community in Louisville, MS passed away Thursday, December 22nd, 2016 at Louisville Healthcare nursing home.
She was a longtime member of Whitehall United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Kaye Hailey (Lamar), Ernie Sloan (Lorie), and Bruce Sloan (Terri); grandchildren, Adam Sloan (Nicole), Jonathan Sloan, and Jaycee Sloan; and one great grandchild, Gabriel Sloan; sisters-in-law, Ruth Pearson, Syble Pearson, and Maude Brown; and a brother-in-law, Fred Sloan; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends at Winston Medical Center and Louisville Healthcare.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Sloan; parents, Myrtis and Jackson Pearson; sisters, Maurine Wiley, Dee Wiley, Lucy Allen; brothers, Harvey Pearson, J.T. Pearson, Lem Pearson, Ben Pearson, Thad Pearson, Clovis Pearson and twin brother Johnny Pearson; brother-in-law, Jimmy Sloan; sisters-in-law, Ada Lee Chamblee, and Nannie McQuirter.

Mildred Louise Abraham Ivy, 89 years old, of Louisville, MS went to her eternal home December 22, 2016. Visitation is from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2016, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home.
Services are at 2:00 p.m. December 23, 2016, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Lundy officiating.
Interment will follow in Yellow Creek Cemetery in Winston County.
She was born March 3, 1927 in Greenwood, Mississippi and raised by her loving parents Mary McArthur Abraham and Joe F. Abraham.
Although most of her life was lived in Louisville, she attended school at Mashulaville and always spoke fondly of the memories and friends she made during school and while living in the dormitory. As an adult, she worked as a clock inspector at the Spartus Corporation.
Mildred was a sweet and loving mother to four children, a grandmother and a great grandmother. She was a wonderful person who showed love to everyone she met. She was caring and beautiful inside and out.
Even though she experienced numerous adversities in her life she remained strong and determined. Her life was defined by her love and faith in her lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Time may have robbed her of many names and memories, but she never forgot the name of Jesus or the words to her favorite hymns. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors are her four children: Mary Jane (Frankie) Boykin of Brooksville, Betty (Willie) Miles of Louisville, Johnny (Carolyn) Ivy of Louisville and Patricia (David) Holton of Louisville; six grandchildren: Greg (Patrice) Boykin, Kristi (Heath) Beard, Jon (Stacey) Miles, Justin (Adria) Miles, Kim (Kevin) Swicegood, Stacy (Bill) Sullivan, and eleven great grandchildren.

Mr. Fred Price Reed, 97, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at Neshoba General Hospital in Philadelphia, MS. He was an insurance salesman and funeral director, having served the families of Winston County for over 50 years. Fred was also an Army veteran of WWII, and a member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Reynolds Reed; his parents, Cora Bessie Stokes Reed and Edward Joseph Reed; two sisters, Autence Eaves and Lorene Parks; and two brothers, Tommy Reed and Howard Reed.

Kenneth Dwight Shumaker passed away peacefully in his sleep of natural causes on December 21, 2016, at his home in the Burnside Community of Philadelphia, MS. Dwight was born in the Hinze Community of Winston County, MS, on August 1, 1946, to parents, Grover Houston and Addie Inez Shumaker. He was the youngest of six children and was duly spoiled, as is common for most children born into such circumstances. He loved his brothers and sisters, and is certainly celebrating with those who are already there to welcome him home.

Thomas Stephen Fant, 98, died December 16, 2016, at his home in Olive Branch. A native of Louisville, Mississippi, Mr. Fant had been a resident of the Memphis, Tennessee area since 2000. Born October 12, 1918, to Stepp and Allie Files Fant in Choctaw County, Mississippi, Mr. Fant left school at an early age to help provide for the family due to his father’s blindness. He was an automotive mechanic and, according to the Winston County Journal in the late 1930’s, was a “dashing young man about town”.
