Virginia Hunt

Virginia Hunt, 87, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2016, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Paul Emerson and Henry Glaze officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Virginia was born March 15, 1929, to Irvine Douglas and Imogene Grimmer Irby. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville where children were always her passion. At age 50, she decided to further her education by attending Christian Brothers College in Memphis, Tennessee. In her early years, she did clerical work and was involved in children’s ministry through various venues including daycare and by serving as a houseparent on several campuses of The Baptist Children’s Village.

Ms. Hunt is survived by three daughters: Annetta Hindman and husband, Paul, of Fleming Island, Florida; Joyce Fulton and husband, Larry, of Brooksville, Mississippi; and Candace Hunt of Houston, Texas. Also left to mourn her passing is her daughter-in-law, Dotty Hunt Butts and husband, David, of Belden, Mississippi; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as the many lives she influenced in her work through The Baptist Children’s Village. One of her greatest pleasures that brought joy to her heart was being “MaMaw” to her 11 grandchildren: Angie Brown (Chris); Dene Moore (Mark); Chris Hindman; Craig Hindman; Julie Herrington (John); Christie Abercrombie (Brigg); Ashlie Emerson (Paul); Laura Hunt; Pamela Lloyd (Keith); Earl Stevens; and Mary Elizabeth Butts; 25 great-grandchildren; and her lifelong friend, Barbara Turner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Kennedy Hunt; her son, Steven Douglas Hunt; and her siblings, Buddy Irby; Dorothy Wilson; and Bob Irby.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brigg Abercrombie, John Herrington, Chris Hindman, Robert Irby, Keith Lloyd, Gunnar Moore, Mark Moore, and Earl Stevens. Honorary pallbearers are Craig Hindman, Chris Brown, Jerry Beaty, Larry Trent, Matthew “Bud” Turner, Jerry Turner, Lenny Turner, Marty Turner, Nick Turner, and Joe Wylie.
