A. W. Hatcher


A. W. Hatcher, 87, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Choctaw Residential Center in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Visitation will be Monday, February 8, 2016, at Nowell Massey Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Lundy officiating. Interment will follow in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.


A. W. was born October 3, 1928, to Benjamin Austin and Stella Vickery Hatcher. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and a Mason. Mr. Hatcher was a farmer and a convenience store owner/operator in the Claytown community and the town of Noxapater. He always encouraged everyone to “treat each other right” and “to do right like people know to do.” He lived his life by his version of Luke 6:31 to “treat people the way you want to be treated”.

A. W. is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jimmie Sue Edwards Hatcher of Louisville; and four daughters: Patricia Ann Graham and husband, Stan, of Pensacola, Florida; Bonnie Sue Creekmore; Pamela Joy Blackwell and husband, Steve; and Jennifer Kaye Kight and husband, Wes, all of Louisville. He is also survived by his son, James Michael Hatcher and wife, Tonia, of Kosciusko, Mississippi; and his daughter-in-law, Betty Lynn Hatcher, also of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “PawPaw” to his wonderful large family consisting of 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Austin Hatcher; his daughter, Anita Faye Hatcher; his granddaughter, Cindy Yarbrough; and his son-in-law, Jeffrey Creekmore.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brent Blackwell, Corey Blackwell, Brad Creekmore, Michael Hatcher, Jake Kight, and Johnny Kight. Memorials may be given to Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o David Holder, 359 Palmer Road, Louisville, MS 39339.
