Jerry Barnett

Jerry Barnett, 57, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at his residence in Noxapater, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Noxapater with Rev. James Dearing, Rev. Lyn Harvell, and Rev. Kenneth Franklin officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Oak Grove Baptist Church from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on the day of the service from 12 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.Mr. Barnett was born on November 10, 1956, to Opal McAdory Barnett and Charlie Jeff Barnett. For 25 years, he has worked for the Georgia Pacific/Roseburg Corporation where he was a supervisor. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and assistant song leader. Jerry was an avid Noxapater Tiger fan, serving as the president of the Noxapater Tiger Booster Club for many years; and he was instrumental in getting the current field house built. He was an outdoorsman—he enjoyed hunting; he also loved to spend time with his wife while fishing; but most of all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shirley Snow Barnett, of Noxapater; and his children, , Wendy Moore and husband, Rod, of Olive Branch, Mississippi; Allan Barnett; Apryl Triplett and husband, Gene; and Ashley Stone and husband, Chad, all of Noxapater. Mr. Barnett has twelve grandchildren: Madison Barnett, Morghan Moore, Brianna Barnett, T. J. Moore, Ericka Robertson, Katelyn Barnett, Nick Stone, Zak Moore, Kenzi Moore, Taylor Barnett, Blake Stone, and D. J. Triplett. He is also survived by two sisters, Peggy Ann Barfield of Noxapater; and Betty Jo Majors of Diana, Texas; and one brother, Charles Wayne Barnett and wife, Connie, of Des Moines, Iowa. Surviving Mr. Barnett is a very special young man to the family, Austin Yates. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers-in-law, Hugh Majors and Charlie Barfield.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dewayne Barrett, David Johnson, Bobby “Bubba” Pierce, Scott Poole, Neil Snow, and Danny Snow. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
