Matthew Wayne “Matt” Henry

Matthew Wayne “Matt” Henry, 52, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. He was born in Long Beach, Mississippi to John K. Henry and Joy Coleman Henry on May 28, 1961. Matt loved to read and had a passion for music especially The Beatles. He was an avid animal lover, in particularly dogs. He played drums in many bands and venues throughout the South including Rum Boogie Café in Memphis, Tennessee and Ground Zero in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Matt also had a deep interest in the culture, history and authors of the South especially the Civil War era. He attended The University of Mississippi where he obtained a degree in Broadcast Journalism. He lived in Louisville, Mississippi; Oxford, Mississippi; and Tupelo, Mississippi before returning back to Louisville. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Billy Bowie officiating. Visitation will be held at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home one hour before the graveside services.

He is survived by his mother, Joy Coleman Henry, of Louisville, his brother, Mark Henry (Kathy) of Brandon, Mississippi, and his sister, Lea Mols (Chuck) of Tupelo, Mississippi; a nephew, George Henry of Brandon, Mississippi; and a niece, Elizabeth Henry of New Haven, Connecticut. Matt was preceded in death by his father, John Kelly Henry.
