Mrs. Dolly Gladden Smith


Funeral services for Mrs. Dolly Gladden Smith, 88, will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2012, atCamp Ground United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Haggard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Granny Dolly, as she was affectionately called by her family, was born May 23, 1923, in Louise,Mississippi, to George Russell Gray and Lula Mae Chaney Gray. She had five brothers and four sisters.

At a young age, she (along with her younger siblings) was placed in the Mississippi Children's Home Society to be adopted. On 
April 3, 1933, she was adopted by C. L. (Charley) and Vera Stanley Gladden. Seventeen days later the Gladdens returned to Jackson and adopted her brother, Buddy.

The family made their home in the 
Camp Ground community and on March 28, 1938, Dolly married William Martin Smith. They continued to live their entire lives in the Gladden home and were blessed with three boys: William Joe, Charles Jerry, and Scotty Gray.

She helped raise all six of her grandchildren: Tim, Marty, Dane, Scott, Sam, and Melanie. She dearly loved her six great-grandchildren:  Eric, Aubrie Claire, Briann, Matthew, Tyler and Carmen.

Granny Dolly was a homemaker and worked along with her husband in the dairy business. She was also well known as one of the best cooks in the county and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She was a faithful member of 
Camp Ground United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and her husband.  Those left to celebrate her life are:  Joe, Peggy, Tim, Lisa, Marty, Gina, Tyler, Carmen, Sam, Jerry, Becky, Dane, Scott, Briann, Matthew, Scotty, Melanie, Kiley, Eric, and Aubrie Claire.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Joe Smith, Garland Smith, Jackie Holdiness, Butch Burns, Isaac Triplett and Ronnie Mitchell.
