Mrs. Mary McLeod Gookin, 80, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at Winston Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23rd, at 11:00 a.m. at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mary was born December, 1, 1929, in Louisville, MS. She was a retired bookkeeper and receptionist for Dr. J. E. Calloway and Dr. Joe Suttle for 42 years. She was a member of First United Methodist church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Gookin; a son, Ben Alan Gookin; her parents, Hilda and Robert McLeod, and a sister, Dixie Kennedy.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Gookin of San Diego, CA; two sons, David Gookin of Louisville, MS, and Gary Gookin of Norman, OK; a brother, Bob McLeod of Louisville; three sisters, Joyce Foster of Louisville, MS, Helen McLeod of Columbus, GA, and Carol Ann Frazier of Arlington, TX; and 6 grandchildren.
