Mr. Silas Willard Lowery, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Louisville Health Care in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Noxapater, Mississippi, with Rev. Fred Frazier, Jr. and Rev. Bobby Lowery officiating. Mr. Lowery was a retired Fire Tower Watchman for the Forestry Commission and a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Noxapater. He was born July 31, 1921, to Howard and Mary Elizabeth Permenter Lowery.
He is survived by one daughter, Jeanette (Henry) Shurden of Noxapater, Mississippi; one son, Robert (Jan) Lowery of Louisville, Mississippi; three sisters, Margaret (Paul) Bergeron of Covina, California, Helen Deacon, Glendora, California, and Amelia (Don) Zumbrunnen of San Gabriel, California; seven grandchildren, Mitchel (Brandi) Shurden of West Monroe, Louisiana, Glen (Vanessa) Shurden of Prentiss, Mississippi, Leighann S. (Glenn) Gregory of Louisville, Mississippi, Scott Shurden, Alabaster, Alabama, Alison Lowery, Jonathan Lowery, and Caden Lowery all of Louisville, Mississippi; and four great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Caleb Gregory of Louisville, Mississippi, and Logan and Luke Shuden of West Monroe, Louisiana. Preceding him in death was his wife, Mae Laverne Lowery.
Pallbearers will be Mitchel Shurden, Glen Shurden, Scott Shurden, Jonathan Lowery, Glenn Gregory, and Elton Jones. Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS is handling the arrangements.
