Dezie Mae was born on November 29, 1934, to Andrew and Lizzie McClelland Sides. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was an excellent seamstress and she also enjoyed quilting. She used her talents to make many priceless treasures for her family as well as sewing for the public. Dezie Mae also enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family.
Dezie Mae is survived by her children: Kathy Vaughn (Van) of Cartersville, Georgia; Bill Jeffries, Jr. (Teresa) of Sturgis, Mississippi; Lisa Lee Parra (Dale) of Macon, Mississippi; Donna Niles (Mike) of Easley, South Carolina; and Andrea Merchant (Bill) of Pickens, South Carolina. One of her greatest joys was being “DeeDee” to her seven grandchildren: Jason Eaves (Daniella); Casey Gray (Maggie); Brandon Gray (Julianna); Wes Lee (Katie); Tobey Conner; Matt Jeffries; and Ariail Lankford; in addition to her 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry “Bill” Jeffries; her parents; and her brother, Andrew Sides.
Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Franks, Elbert Ray, Danny Ray, Charles Smith, Terry McClelland, and Randal McClelland. Memorial contributions in honor of Dezie Mae may be given to McClelland Cemetery Fund, c/o Martha Lindsey, 6418 Craig Springs Road, Sturgis, MS 39769.
