David Windel Boydstun

David Windel Boydstun, 83, passed away Friday, October 25, 2024, at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.

David is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nell Hooks Boydstun; son, David K. (Teresa) Boydstun all of Louisville; and daughter, Angie Boydstun of Brandon, Mississippi. One of his greatest joys was being “Granddaddy” to his two grandsons: D. K. Boydstun and Jesse (Caroline) Boydstun. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Boydstun Rogers; sister-in-law, Jean Boydstun; and aunt, Shelby Boydstun; as well as his loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

David was preceded in death by his daughter, Belinda Dawn Boydstun; grandson, Thomas Windel Boydstun; his parents, Leroy and Gladys Richardson Boydstun; and two brothers, James L. Boydstun and Richard H. (Martha) Boydstun.

David (or Windel to those he grew up with) was a man of faith, a hard worker, and a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. The things that meant the most to him were his family, God, and service to his country. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family, and he was very proud to have served for 36 years in the Mississippi National Guard. He enjoyed teaching his Sunday School class and took great pleasure in anything related to the outdoors. He relished being able to hunt, fish, ride four-wheelers, and – later in his life – enjoy the scenery at Cade’s Cove and other national parks.

All of his life, David knew what it meant to be a hard worker. At one point, he was a partner in a local accounting firm, a commander in the National Guard, and owner of the Village Inn Restaurant and Motel. Serving in various leadership positions in clubs and organizations, he was able to be advisor, mentor, and friend to many around Louisville.

Visitation will be Monday, October 28 at Massey Funeral Home in Louisville from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 29 in the Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Dr. Jimmy Porter and Dr. Wayne Hill officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in Harmony Cemetery in the Nanih Waiya Community.

Serving as pallbearers D. K. Boydstun, Jesse Boydstun, Lee Boydstun, Ronnie Boydstun, Gary Rogers, and Retired Brigadier General Tod Wall, USAF. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Henry Stokes; Dr. David Holder; T. J. Jennings; Bro. Junior Davis; Retired Major Wayne Hilliard, US Army; Retired Colonel Mark Smith, US Army; and Retired Colonel John Barnes, MS National Guard.
