Alfred was born May 9, 1938, to Burry and Bessie Eskridge Coleman of the Craig Springs Community. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Alfred retired after devoting more than 42 years as a lab technician to the Borden Dairy Company. He was passionate about farming his land and loved his cows. Alfred enjoyed the time he spent with others; especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was known for making his communal laps around Craig Springs for which he earned the title of “Neighborhood Watch.”
Alfred is survived by his loving wife of almost 66 years, Peggy Morgan Coleman; and his two sons: Stan Coleman and wife, Debbie; and Steven Coleman and wife, Renee; and his ever-faithful companion, his dog, Moe, all of the Craig Springs Community. One of his greatest joys was being “Popa” to his grandchildren: Stephanie Baldwin, Jonathan (Dawn) Coleman, and Shelby (Dustin) Hardin; as well as his great-grandchildren: Rylee Baldwin, Marlee Baldwin, Eli Ingram, Coleman Hardin, and Pryor Hardin. He is also survived by his sister, Frances Prisock; in addition to his loving nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings: Carlene Elrod, Pauline Green, Shirley Griffin, Thomas Coleman, and Grady Coleman.
Serving as pallbearers are Buddy Prisock, Billy Greene, Bobby Greene, Jay McClelland, Ben Morgan, Kenny Wilson, Tommy Coleman, Darrell Seawright, and Sterling Lewis. Honorary pallbearers are those in the Men’s Sunday School Class at Friendship Baptist Church. The family requests memorials in honor of Alfred be given to Shriners Children’s Hospital online at shrinerschildrens.org or by mail at P. O. Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394.
