Jason was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: James William Jenkins, Claire Jenkins Tharp and step-grandfather, William Marion Tharp; maternal grandparents: Samuel Walter Johnson and Betty Cathrine Johnson; and his parents, James Dewayne (Jim) Jenkins and Phyllis Ann Johnson Jenkins.
Jason was born on April 11, 1970, in Winona, Mississippi. Raised in Weir, Mississippi, Jason graduated from Weir High School in 1988. He was a member of the Weir Lions’ football team that won the Class 1A State Championship in 1984 and 1985. Although he graduated from Mississippi State University with his Bachelor of Accounting, he was an Ole Miss Rebel at heart. Jason worked in various occupations eventually running his own business, Guns and Roses Pawn Shop in Ackerman, Mississippi.
Jason attended Sapa Baptist Church. He had a strong interest in the outdoors, from hauling hay in his younger days to developing a knack for getting tractors and other equipment stuck and hunting with his friends and daughter. He was a member of the Starkville Hunting Club and enjoyed shooting IDPA. He enjoyed watching his daughter play sports and instilling in her a love of the music from the 70s and 80s. His quick wit and loyalty earned him many lifelong friends.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Coleman Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
