Tressie Vowell

Funeral services for Tressie Vowell will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from First Pentecostal Church of Philadelphia. Interment will be in Mars Hill cemetery. Rev. Tim Vowell and Dr. Raymond Wiggins will officiate. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at First Pentecostal Church of Philadelphia.

Mrs. Vowell, 77, of Winston County passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024. She was a native of Leake County and a resident of Winston County for 58 years.

She enjoyed feeding and watching her birds and fixing up her many bird houses. Her dog, Jezzie Lee, was a very special part of her life for the last few years. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren was a highlight in life. She was a faithful member of First Pentecostal Church and she loved her church and church family.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Jimmy Vowell of Philadelphia; son, Rev. Tim Vowell (Lyn) of Philadelphia; daughter, Starla Tolbert (William) of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Elauran Barrett (Tanner), Makaila Howell (Christian), Malcolm Castle (Britney), Elijah McNeer; great-grandchildren, Sophia Howell, McKinlee Howell, Nova Howell, Weston Castle & Olivia Castle; sisters, Virginia Wiggins of Texas, Rosie Smith of Texas (Tommy) and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Presley Grover and Alma Lula Burnside: brothers, Charles Burnside, Robert Burnside, George “Bud” Burnside, L. Frank Burnside, & James Burnside, sisters Lucy Obera Ogden, Jane McCluskey, Bessie Federick, & Trudy Williamson & several half-brothers & sisters.


Family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials can be made to First Pentecostal Church Global Missions Fund.
