Howard Eugene Duran, age 83, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at his home in Noxapater, Mississippi, knowing how much he was loved by his family. Visitation will be the day of the service from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Interment will immediately follow in Hight Cemetery in Noxapater.

Howard was born January 15, 1939, to John “Bud” and Lessie Robertson Duran in Winston County, Mississippi. He was a member of Hight Assembly of God in Noxapater. Howard was an avid baseball fan, especially the Atlanta Braves. During his younger years, he played baseball on the local community level as a catcher, while his brother played in the pitcher position. Not having numbers to put on their jerseys, they sometimes “stole” numbers off the light poles to put on their shirts. He also enjoyed coaching Little League city baseball teams. Another hobby he enjoyed was farming and tractors. He loved to buy, fix, and sell tractors.

Howard is survived by his children: Jean Kemp and husband Rudy of Noxapater, and Stephen Duran and wife Stacy of Atlanta, Georgia. One of his greatest joys was being “PawPaw Howard” to his four grandchildren: Alex Kemp, Kristin (Chris) Reed, Zach (Kate) Kemp, and Lily Duran; as well as his great-grandchildren: Ollie and Chase Reed, Jax Kemp, and Larkin Westlake. He also leaves behind his sister Mary Kugle, his brother Ralph (Murle) Duran, his sister-in-law Nannie Maude Reynolds all of Noxapater, and his special friend Joyce Smith of Philadelphia, Mississippi, in addition to a host of loving nieces, nephews, and many friends. Howard was preceded in death by his wife Nina Dewease Duran, and his siblings: W. W. Duran, Gracie Kelly, Nan Baysinger, Louis Duran, Bob Duran, Homer Duran, Horace Duran, Linnie Ballard, and Frank Duran.

Serving as pallbearers are Alex Kemp, Zach Kemp, Chris Reed, Mark Kugle, John Swindle, and Clay Kugle. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Swindle, Don Greenwood, David Woods, and James Kugle.
