Peggy Jean Simpson

Peggy Jean Simpson, age 89, passed away on July 19, 2022, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Lundy officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Memorial Cemetery.

Peggy, the second of 10 children, was born on January 24, 1933, to Carl and Mae Wright Fleming in Carmichael, Mississippi. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Peggy was an avid outdoors person; she loved working in her yard and cutting grass. Even as a child, she enjoyed being outside and sweeping the yard with a sage brush broom. Peggy enjoyed growing a large garden and freezing or canning the vegetables she grew.

Peggy is survived by her children: Jimmy (Sonya) Simpson of Jackson, Mississippi, Randy (Jackie) Simpson of Peterman, Alabama, Glenda (Robbie) Childress of Dahlonega, Georgia, and Steve Simpson of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Mamaw” to her eight grandchildren: Brandon (Sarah) Simpson, Brady (Leah) Simpson, Gracie Simpson, Josh (Mandy) Clark, Mandy (David) Hessenius, Jason (Tiffany) Clark, Ashley (Thomas) Pruett, and Laura (Paul) Lee. She also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren: Mathew Hessenius, David Hessenius, Jr., Kaylie Hessenius, Makenna Clark, Jada Clark, Brooklyn Clark, Ember Clark, Paisley Clark, Bryce Bragg, Braxton Bragg, Ayden Pruett, Leslie Pruett, Anslee Claire Hicks, Ty Hicks, Wesley Hicks, and Marlee-Kate Lee. She is also survived by her sister Cherry Martin, and two brothers Rickey Fleming and Mack D. Fleming.

 She is preceded in death by her husband R. T. Simpson, son Donnie Ray Simpson, daughter-in-law Debbie Simpson, parents, and her siblings: Evelyn Claridy, Anita Faye Coody, Diane Young, Wade Fleming, Garner Fleming, and Terell Fleming.

Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Simpson, Randy Simpson, Steve Simpson, Brady Simpson, Brandon Simpson, Paul Lee, and Thomas Pruett. Memorials in honor of Peggy may be given to Winston-Choctaw Gideon Camp, P. O. Box 556, Louisville, MS 39339.
