Mary Bettye Barnhill Mills

Mary Bettye Barnhill Mills, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Lewis Travis “Ted” Mills. 

Bettye was born August 11, 1924 in Louisville, MS. Daughter of the late James Elmer Barnhill and Mary Alice Eaves Barnhill. Sister of the late Hubert E. Barnhill, Cyrus Lamar Barnhill, Mildred Rebecca Lombardo, Peggy Louise Green, William Henry Barnhill, and a half brother, Jim Holmes. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Bettye and Ted were married February 5, 1942 in Laurel, MS., and in 1969 they moved to Slidell. She was a graduate of Comptometer School in New Orleans. She retired after 29 years, from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp in Chalmette and was a member of the Kaiser Aluminum Salaried Retirees Association and First Baptist Church of Slidell. Bettye was initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star in 1955, served as Grand Adah, 1970-71, Grand Marshal 1976-77, and as an officer of Lakeshore Chapter in Slidell. She was initiated September 13, 1962 into “Daughters of the Nile”, Immanuel Temple, helping children receive critical life saving care at Shriner’s Hospitals.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA., on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation on Monday after 9:00 A.M. until funeral time.
Interment on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., in Memorial Park Cemetery, Louisville, MS.

Donations to First Baptist Church, Slidell, preferred, in lieu of flowers.
