Winston Miles Hayes, 91, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home. A private family service will be held and interment will follow in Vernon Assembly of God Church Cemetery.
Winston was born in Winston County, Mississippi on June 3, 1929, to Marshall and Effie Carter Ferguson. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Winston was a very outgoing person who enjoyed being around people. She worked in the Winston County Courthouse in the offices of the tax assessor and chancery clerk before being elected as the Tax Assessor of Winston County. She was also a prolific reader; she loved to sew; and very much enjoyed traveling when her health permitted.
Winston is survived by her son Willie E. Miles and wife Bettye of the Nanih Waiya Community. One of her greatest joys was being “MawMaw” to her grandsons Jon (Stacey) Miles and Justin (Adria) Miles. She also enjoyed being “GeeGee” to her great-grandchildren Joshua, Hannah, and Miriam Miles, and Will and Nicole Miles. She is preceded death by her husbands Earlee Miles and Floyd Hayes.
Serving as pallbearers are Jon Miles, Justin Miles, Joshua Miles, and Will Miles. Memorials in honor of Winston may be given to Vernon Assembly of God Church Cemetery Fund.
