Irene Myrtle Chandler

Irene Myrtle Chandler, 97, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at her home in Louisville, Mississippi. Private graveside services and interment will be Wednesday, January 20 at Memorial Cemetery in Louisville with Bro. Paul Goodin officiating and Danny Cheatham assisting. A private family visitation will be held at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville.
Irene was born September 12, 1923, to Chapman and Dorothy Jones Gillis in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. She was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church. Irene worked at Spartus Corporation and later retired after working many years at Wal-Mart in Louisville. She was a very talented quilter who blessed her family, friends, and neighbors with heirloom treasures of quilts she made. Irene also enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles and completing word search puzzles. She also enjoyed her adult coloring books which made beautiful framed pictures after completion.

Irene is survived by her daughters: Dorothy “Dot” Cheatham and husband Danny of Starkville, Mississippi, Ann Parker and husband Jackie of Louisville, and Donna Moore and husband Danny of Florence, Mississippi, as well as her “daughter by choice” Jean Wallace of Brandon, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Granny” to her grandchildren: Chris (Leah) Cheatham, David (Kelly) Cheatham, and Emily (Cash) VanLandingham; as well as her seven great-grandchildren: Bryce and Hayden Cheatham, Brooklyn, Caroline, Kate, Annabelle Cheatham, and Alex Burton. She also leaves behind her siblings: Kathleen Holmes, Helen Stemmer, Sally (Jim) McRorie, Alton (Betty) Gillis, Algen (Christine) Gillis, Roger (Erma) Gillis, and Marion Gillis. She is preceded in death by her husband Edwin W. Chandler, her grandson Brad Parker, her parents, and her siblings: Jimmy Gillis, Gerald Gillis, and Margaret Jeffers.

Serving as pallbearers are Alex Burton, Chris Cheatham, David Cheatham, Keith Collier, Kenny Collier, and Cash VanLandingham. Gifts in honor of Irene may be given to Gum Branch Baptist Church or to Quality Hospice.
