Richard was born April 29, 1932, to John Thomas and Odessa Fortenberry Smith. He was retired from U. S. Motors where he worked as a factory worker. Richard also was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening where he raised tomatoes and other vegetables and always offered whatever he raised to others. Richard really enjoyed and looked forward to visiting friends to eat, fellowship, and play pool. He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Army for two years.
Richard is survived by his two daughters Sherri Wilkerson of the Damascus Community in Kemper County, Mississippi, and Tammy Rasberry of Collinsville, Mississippi, and two sons Ricky Smith and wife Kim of Meridian, Mississippi, and Dalton Smith and wife Toni of Toomsuba, Mississippi. One of his greatest joys was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his brothers: Theron Smith, David Smith, and John Thomas Smith, his sister Violet Hagan, and his parents.
