Tilda B. Worrell

Tilda Betty "Tilda B" Worrell died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at the age of 95 in Starkville, Mississippi. A lifelong resident of Choctaw County, MS, Tilda B. spent the last few years of her life in Starkville BeeHive enjoying visits with her children and grandchildren.

Born on April 5, 1925, in Choctaw County, MS, Tilda B. had seen a few things in her life. From the depression, to the new age of technology, she never ceased to be amazed by life and how it was changing. Tilda B. was beloved by her community for many years as she gave of herself in service to her friends and church, New Zion Baptist, where she was a member for 95 years. She could be heard playing the piano (in only the way Tilda B. could play the piano) at New Zion, or working at the polls on election day for as long as the years would allow. She was known by her family as making the best biscuits, chicken & dumplings, and apple pie on this side of the Mississippi, and loving Jesus with all of her heart.

Tilda B. is survived by her 5 children, Dixie(Doris) Worrell of Ackerman, MS, Max(Karen) Worrell of Cordova, TN, Kathy(Louis) Jenkins of Starkville, MS, Doug Worrell of Pensacola, FL, and Jayne(Claude) Gunter of Oxford, MS. She is preceded in death by her husband Kendall Keith Worrell; parents, Houston and Bertie King; brother, H.D. King of Clarksdale, MS; sister, Beatrice Black of Ackerman, MS.

Her loving legacy is also left deep in the hearts of 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren (one of which holds the name of Matilda in honor of her great-grandmother), and 1 great-great-grandchild.

The graveside service is scheduled for Friday, September 18, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., for immediate family only at South Union Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to New Zion Baptist Church.
