Services for Mrs. Betty Clay-Holmes will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2020 from Taylor Union Hall, Hwy 397, Louisville, MS. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM at the Union Hall same day as service. Interment will be in Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 789 C McDonald Road, Preston, MS., the Rev. David Harris officiating. Smith's Affordable Funeral Home, Grenada, MS. in charge of arrangements.
Our beloved Betty Clay-Holmes was born on May 13, 1942 in Winston County Louisville, MS to the late Mr. Albert C. Clay, Sr. and Mrs. Ardell Prince-Clay. Betty was the second child born to this union of six. On Friday, August 14, 2020 the Lord called his servant home. She was preceded in death by her father and mother Albert and Ardell Clay and four brothers John Willie, Albert Jr., Ossie B and Billy Herry Clay. She married James Holmes in 1971 and to that union one child was born, Jamey T. Holmes.
Betty joined the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. After graduating from Noxapater High School, Betty attended Rust College, graduated in 1966 and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies. After graduation Betty taught at Camille Street High School in Louisville, MS for a number of years. After studying Elementary Education at Mississippi State University, she worked in various other schools including Ackerman and Vaiden, Mississippi. Betty had many talents such as; sewing, doing hair and an excellent cook. Always a hard worker at whatever she did. Betty was an excellent provider for her entire family, and always looked at her students as part of her family as well.
Betty leaves the following to cherish her memories: her son Jamey Holmes of Preston, MS; husband James Holmes of Louisville, MS; sister Ruthie Clay-Betts(Bernard) of Preston, MS; two granddaughter Jasmine Holmes of Louisville, MS; J’Wanaque (Mesha) Triplett of Sumter, SC; five nephews Brandon Triplett, Antown Triplett, Robert Clay and Anthony Clay all of Louisville, MS; John Willie Clay, Jr. of Little Rock, AK; three nieces Gloria Triplett and Donna Clay of Louisville, MS; Joi Hayes of Chicago, IL; special grand-nieces and grand-nephews Briana Hayes of Houston, TX; Cameron and Rashad Hayes of Chicago, IL and Z’Kerria Lampkin, Zoey and Taryn Hunt of Louisville, MS.
